What the MBS-WS Does

The TrolMaster MBS-WS is an outdoor weather station sensor built specifically for the GCS-1 Green-X greenhouse control system. It consolidates four discrete measurement functions — ambient temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and rainfall detection — into a single, mountable unit. Rather than relying on generalized forecasts or indoor sensor readings to make decisions about outdoor conditions, the MBS-WS gives the GCS-1 direct, real-time ambient data from outside the structure.

Communication runs over a stable RS485 digital bus, which delivers consistent, low-latency data transmission to the GCS-1 controller. The unit ships with a 12-foot RJ12 to 4-pin IP65 connector cable, a horizontal leveling tool, and a mounting bracket — everything needed to get the sensor positioned and wired correctly from the start. Power draw is minimal at under 1W on a 12V input, so it adds negligible load to the control system.

The sensor's IP54 ingress protection rating means it handles dust and water spray exposure without degradation in performance. The three-cup anemometer design measures wind speed from 0 to 15 m/s (up to approximately 33.5 mph), and the humidity measurement range covers 0–90% RH — appropriate for the full range of outdoor conditions a commercial greenhouse will face across seasons. Temperature measurement spans -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F), with accuracy within ±3°F.

How It Fits a Commercial Greenhouse Build

In a complete Green-X system build, the MBS-WS sits alongside the MBS-GH indoor 4-in-1 sensor (temperature, humidity, CO2, and light) to give the GCS-1 a full picture of both interior and exterior conditions.
