4-in-1 outdoor weather station sensor designed for the TrolMaster GCS-1 Green-X greenhouse control system.
The TrolMaster MBS-WS is a compact, integrated outdoor weather station that feeds real-time temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall data directly into the GCS-1 Green-X Controller over RS485 — enabling weather-responsive automation of curtains, vents, and climate systems.
The TrolMaster MBS-WS is an outdoor weather station sensor built specifically for the GCS-1 Green-X greenhouse control system. It consolidates four discrete measurement functions — ambient temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and rainfall detection — into a single, mountable unit. Rather than relying on generalized forecasts or indoor sensor readings to make decisions about outdoor conditions, the MBS-WS gives the GCS-1 direct, real-time ambient data from outside the structure.
Communication runs over a stable RS485 digital bus, which delivers consistent, low-latency data transmission to the GCS-1 controller. The unit ships with a 12-foot RJ12 to 4-pin IP65 connector cable, a horizontal leveling tool, and a mounting bracket — everything needed to get the sensor positioned and wired correctly from the start. Power draw is minimal at under 1W on a 12V input, so it adds negligible load to the control system.
The MBS-WS is the right add-on for any licensed cannabis or hemp operator running a greenhouse or hybrid greenhouse-indoor facility that already uses — or is building around — the TrolMaster GCS-1 Green-X Controller. If your facility has retractable curtains, roll-up sides, motorized vents, or glass panels that need to respond to outdoor conditions, this sensor is what supplies the GCS-1 with the external environmental data it needs to automate those responses.
Greenhouse operators who experience wide seasonal swings, high-wind events, or unpredictable rain patterns will get the most operational value from the MBS-WS. It's particularly effective in multi-span greenhouse builds where manual monitoring of outdoor conditions across a large footprint is impractical. The GCS-1 supports one MBS-WS per control set, so plan accordingly when speccing out sensor capacity across multiple zones or controller sets.
The MBS-WS integrates directly with the GCS-1 to enable weather-triggered automation logic. When wind speed or rainfall exceeds configurable thresholds, the controller can automatically signal the DMC-1 24V DC Greenhouse Roll-Up Motor Controller or the AMC-1 Single/Three Phase Curtain Motor Controller to close curtains, vents, or glass panels — protecting the crop and the structure without requiring operator intervention. This closes the loop between what's happening outside and how the greenhouse responds, in real time.
The sensor's IP54 ingress protection rating means it handles dust and water spray exposure without degradation in performance. The three-cup anemometer design measures wind speed from 0 to 15 m/s (up to approximately 33.5 mph), and the humidity measurement range covers 0–90% RH — appropriate for the full range of outdoor conditions a commercial greenhouse will face across seasons. Temperature measurement spans -20°C to 50°C (-4°F to 122°F), with accuracy within ±3°F.
In a complete Green-X system build, the MBS-WS sits alongside the MBS-GH indoor 4-in-1 sensor (temperature, humidity, CO2, and light) to give the GCS-1 a full picture of both interior and exterior conditions. The indoor sensor handles grow-space climate monitoring; the MBS-WS handles the outside environment. Together, they let the GCS-1 manage everything from irrigation and CO2 to curtain position and vent state based on a unified, data-driven environmental picture.
For operators speccing a new greenhouse build or retrofitting an existing structure with automated climate control, adding the MBS-WS during initial installation is significantly easier than running new cable post-build. The standard RJ12 connection bus the Green-X system uses makes integration clean and compatible with TrolMaster's full peripheral ecosystem. No. The MBS-WS is specifically designed for the TrolMaster GCS-1 Green-X Greenhouse Control System. It is not compatible with the Hydro-X controller family. Hydro-X setups use a different sensor lineup (MBS-PRO, MBS-TH, MBS-PAR, etc.). If you're running a Hydro-X system, contact HSC to discuss the correct sensor configuration for your build.
The GCS-1 supports a maximum of one MBS-WS per control set. If you're managing multiple greenhouse zones under separate GCS-1 controllers, each controller can accommodate one weather station sensor.
Yes — this is one of the primary use cases for the MBS-WS. When paired with the GCS-1 and a compatible motor controller (DMC-1 for 24V DC roll-up motors, or AMC-1 for single/three phase curtain motors), the GCS-1 can be configured to automatically actuate curtains and vents when wind speed or rainfall conditions exceed set thresholds.
The MBS-WS ships with a 12-foot RJ12 to 4-pin IP65 connector cable for connection to the GCS-1 controller's sensor port. It uses TrolMaster's standard RS485 digital bus. For larger greenhouse installations requiring cable extensions beyond the included 12-foot run, contact HSC to discuss cabling options.
Weather data collected by the MBS-WS feeds into the GCS-1 controller, and the GCS-1 is compatible with the TrolMaster mobile app. This means outdoor temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall readings can be monitored remotely through the app alongside all other GCS-1 environmental data.
