Closed-loop industrial fan speed control, fully integrated into the Hydro-X Pro ecosystem.
The TrolMaster VFD-1 is a dedicated Variable Frequency Drive Station that connects your compatible industrial fan inverter directly to the Hydro-X Pro controller, enabling stepless, automated fan speed regulation from a single environmental control platform. No external power supply required — the unit is bus-powered through the RJ12 connection.
The TrolMaster VFD-1 is a communication bridge between the Hydro-X Pro environmental controller and a compatible industrial fan inverter. Rather than relying on on/off relay switching or manual speed adjustments at the drive panel, the VFD-1 allows the Hydro-X Pro to command fan speed as a percentage of the inverter's configured maximum frequency — in real time, in response to live temperature, humidity, or schedule conditions.
Setup begins with a simple address-assignment step: press the addressing button on the VFD-1 and the Hydro-X Pro registers it as a VFD device on the network. From the Hydro-X Pro interface, operators select the inverter model and set the maximum output frequency. That frequency ceiling becomes the 100% reference point; the Hydro-X Pro then modulates speed across the full range from there. Fan speed percentage is visible and adjustable directly from the Hydro-X Pro's main interface.
Any licensed cannabis or hemp cultivation facility running industrial AC fan motors — extraction ventilation, dehumidification air handlers, or large recirculation fans — and already operating on the Hydro-X Pro platform will find the VFD-1 a straightforward upgrade. Fixed-speed fan switching wastes energy and creates environmental swings; VFD control lets the airflow track actual conditions in the room.
Multi-zone grows, multi-room facilities, and operators who have canopy measured in thousands of square feet particularly benefit. At that scale, the energy savings from running large fans at 60–80% speed versus full-blast cycling can be significant, and the reduction in thermal shock to plants between fan-on and fan-off states improves environmental consistency across the canopy. If your facility already uses the Hydro-X Pro for light, CO₂, or temperature management, the VFD-1 slots in without adding a separate control interface.
Bus-powered operation: the VFD-1 draws 12 VDC / 0.2 A directly from the Hydro-X Pro network — no dedicated outlet, no additional power adapter, no extra wiring run to the unit itself. Connection to the controller is via a standard RJ12 phone cable, keeping installation clean and the cable run manageable in any equipment room layout.
The onboard LCD display provides local status and configuration access, including VFD model selection and maximum frequency input. Firmware is field-updatable via Micro-SD card (32 GB or smaller), keeping the station current as TrolMaster releases protocol updates or adds inverter support. Compatible inverter platforms at launch include the TECO E510, DELTA ME300, and ABB ACS355 (the ACS355 requires an FMBA-01 communication module; maximum frequency for that model must be set at the inverter, not via the VFD-1 interface). Additional compatible inverter models should be confirmed with TrolMaster or your HSC account rep before purchasing.
In a production environment, the VFD-1 lives in the equipment room alongside the inverter driving your exhaust or recirculation fan. The station connects to the Hydro-X Pro's device bus on one end and to the inverter's communication port on the other. Once addressed and configured, the Hydro-X Pro takes over all speed commands — operators manage fan behavior through the same interface they use for every other climate parameter.
For facilities building out a fully integrated climate control stack, the VFD-1 is the component that brings large-format fan infrastructure under Hydro-X Pro automation. It eliminates the need for a separate building automation interface, a third-party VFD panel, or manual override schedules at the drive level. The three-year TrolMaster warranty covers the station against defects, with replacement or repair using new or reconditioned parts.

No. The VFD-1 is bus-powered — it draws 12 VDC / 0.2 A directly from the Hydro-X Pro system over the RJ12 connection. No separate power adapter or dedicated circuit is needed for the station itself.
Confirmed compatible models include the TECO E510, DELTA ME300, and ABB ACS355 (the ACS355 requires an FMBA-01 communication module). TrolMaster lists additional compatible inverters; confirm your specific drive model with your HSC rep before ordering.
For most compatible inverters (TECO E510, DELTA ME300), you set the maximum frequency directly through the VFD-1's menu and it becomes the 100% reference point in the Hydro-X Pro. The ABB ACS355 is the exception — maximum frequency must be programmed at the inverter itself, not through the VFD-1.
TrolMaster's Hydro-X Pro supports multiple stations on the device bus. Each VFD-1 is assigned its own address during setup (the Hydro-X Pro display confirms the device type and position). Contact your HSC rep for the current maximum device count per controller for your specific build.
Yes. Firmware is updated via a Micro-SD card inserted into the VFD-1. The SD card must be 32 GB or smaller in capacity. TrolMaster releases firmware updates through its support channels when inverter compatibility or feature changes are available.
