What It Is

The Apera PH850 is a handheld portable pH meter built for professional field measurement. The base unit reads pH and temperature simultaneously, and can also measure ORP in mV mode when paired with a compatible ORP probe (model 301Pt-C, sold separately). The meter comes paired with Apera's 201T-F 3-in-1 combination pH and temperature electrode — a lithium glass membrane design housed in a lead-free food-grade glass tube that delivers fast, stable signal response for general water-solution applications.

Calibration is automatic: the meter recognizes up to five standard buffer solutions (pH 1.68, 4.00, 7.00, 10.01, and 12.45) in a 1-, 2-, or 3-point calibration sequence. After the second and third calibration points, electrode slope data is displayed so you can assess whether the probe is still in good working condition — a useful indicator for any operation running multiple meters across multiple rooms. A built-in self-diagnosis function flags calibration errors and guides the user through corrective steps.

The large LCD displays pH and temperature simultaneously, along with a stability indicator icon that shows when the reading has settled — eliminating guesswork on whether to log the number. Calibration-complete icons confirm successful multi-point calibration at a glance.

Built for Grow-Room Conditions

Commercial cannabis and hemp facilities are hard on instrumentation. Humidity runs high, bench surfaces get wet, nutrients splash, and meters get dropped. The PH850 is rated IP57 — fully dustproof and protected against immersion up to 1 meter — making it genuinely suited to reservoir-side and fertigation-skid use, not just a lab bench. The rubber grip sleeve absorbs impact, and the silicone socket protector keeps the BNC port sealed when the electrode is disconnected.

The integrated foldable stand converts the handheld unit to a benchtop configuration without any additional hardware. Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) is provided via the built-in temperature sensor in the 201T-F electrode, which tests pH and temperature simultaneously. Everything needed to calibrate and begin measuring is included out of the box — no separate buffer solution order required to get started.

The 201T-F electrode uses Apera's proprietary lithium glass membrane. The junction design combines ceramic and fiber filaments to minimize clogging — a common failure mode when measuring nutrient-dense fertigation solutions or media runoff. The detachable sensor shield protects the glass membrane from accidental contact when the meter is stored or transported between use points in the facility.

For operations that need to expand into conductivity measurement at the same time, the PH850 platform also exists in a multi-parameter configuration (PC850) using the same meter body — so there is a clear upgrade path without retraining staff on a different interface.
