Thermostat Station, for Cool only conventional HVAC

Bring cool-only conventional HVAC under full Hydro-X climate automation — no rewiring required.

The TrolMaster TS-1 Thermostat Station replaces the wall thermostat on a conventional cool-only HVAC unit and hands temperature control to the Hydro-X system. Wire it into your existing RWYG low-voltage thermostat cable, assign an address, and the Hydro-X runs your AC to separate day and night setpoints — automatically.

What the TS-1 Does

The TrolMaster TS-1 is a thermostat station built specifically for cool-only conventional HVAC units. It physically replaces the existing wall thermostat, connecting to the same standard low-voltage thermostat cable using the color-coded RWYG wiring found on virtually every conventional AC installation. Once wired in and addressed, the Hydro-X master controller takes over — pushing temperature setpoints to the TS-1 and commanding cooling on or off based on live environmental sensor data.

The LCD screen on the unit displays the active temperature setpoint in the upper field and the current measured temperature in the lower field, so field technicians and facility managers can verify operation at a glance without pulling up the controller app. When the room temperature climbs above the active setpoint, the TS-1 engages cooling mode and displays 'Cool On' on screen. No separate power supply is required — the unit draws operating power through the RJ12 connection to the Hydro-X.

Who This Station Is Built For

The TS-1 is the right choice when your facility runs conventional cool-only HVAC — packaged rooftop units, ductless cooling-only splits, or dedicated precision cooling equipment that uses a standard two-wire or four-wire low-voltage thermostat interface (R, Y, W, G). If your system also handles heating, heat pump, or multi-stage operation, the TS-2 is the appropriate station; the TS-1 is purpose-built for cooling-only circuits.

Commercial cannabis and hemp cultivation facilities with multiple dedicated cooling zones are a direct fit. Because the Hydro-X system supports up to four TS-series thermostat modules simultaneously, a single Hydro-X controller can manage up to four separate cool-only HVAC units — each with its own independent day and night temperature setpoints. That makes the TS-1 a practical building block for zoned multi-room operations, head-house environments, or any facility where individual room cooling needs to track the photoperiod.

Key Features

Day/Night setpoint automation is the core operating mode: the Hydro-X reads photocell status and switches the TS-1 between the programmed daytime and nighttime temperature targets automatically. This eliminates the manual thermostat adjustments that introduce temperature drift during lights-off — a common source of VPD variance and condensation risk in sealed grow rooms.

Firmware is field-upgradeable via the Micro-SD card slot on the station, keeping the unit current with Hydro-X system updates without replacement hardware. Address assignment allows multiple TS-1 units to share the same RJ12 daisy-chain without signal conflict. The plug-and-play RJ12 interface uses standard TrolMaster cabling — a 16 ft and 4 ft RJ12 cable plus an RJ12 T-splitter are included in the box, covering most installation layouts without additional cable orders.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a centralized climate control architecture, the TS-1 acts as the endpoint actuator for any cool-only HVAC circuit that feeds into the Hydro-X ecosystem. The RJ12 daisy-chain runs back to the master controller, and the Hydro-X handles scheduling, sensor-driven setpoint logic, and data logging — the TS-1 itself is the low-level interface that translates controller commands into the 24V thermostat signals your HVAC equipment expects.

For facilities expanding canopy, adding grow rooms, or retrofitting older HVAC infrastructure with modern environmental controls, the TS-1 is a low-disruption upgrade path. You are using the thermostat wiring already in the walls — no new control wiring, no relay panels, no proprietary HVAC integration. Add a TS-1 per zone, address each one, and the Hydro-X manages them as a unified system. Pair with additional Hydro-X peripheral stations (humidity, CO2, lighting) to build out a fully integrated environmental control stack on a single controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the TS-1 work with heat pump or heat/cool HVAC systems?

No. The TS-1 is designed exclusively for cool-only conventional HVAC units. For heat pump systems, multi-stage systems, or equipment that handles both heating and cooling, TrolMaster's TS-2 Thermostat Station is the correct station.

Do I need to run new wiring to install the TS-1?

In most cases, no. The TS-1 connects using the existing low-voltage thermostat cable (standard RWYG color-coded wiring) already in place at the wall thermostat location. You remove the existing thermostat, wire the TS-1 to the same terminals, and connect it to the Hydro-X via the included RJ12 cable.

How many TS-1 units can one Hydro-X controller run?

The Hydro-X supports up to four TS-series thermostat stations simultaneously. Each can be assigned an independent address and programmed with its own day and night temperature setpoints, allowing a single controller to manage up to four separate HVAC zones.

Does the TS-1 need its own power supply?

No. The TS-1 draws operating power through the RJ12 connection to the Hydro-X master controller. No separate 24V transformer or external power supply is needed at the station.

Can the TS-1 firmware be updated in the field?

Yes. The TS-1 includes a Micro-SD card slot for firmware upgrades, allowing the unit to stay current with Hydro-X system updates without requiring replacement hardware or a service call.
