What the TS-2 Is

The TrolMaster TS-2 Thermostat Station 2 is a plug-and-play Hydro-X expansion module that replaces the wall thermostat on any standard HVAC unit. It is designed to control four distinct system configurations: Heat/Cool, Cool Only, Heat Only, and Heat Pump — covering the full range of equipment found in licensed indoor grow facilities.

Installation uses the pre-existing low-voltage thermostat cable already run to the HVAC unit. Terminal connections follow the industry-standard color-coded scheme (R, Y, G, W, O/B for heat pump; R, Y, G, W, W2, Y2 for multi-stage conventional), so no new wiring infrastructure is required. The unit draws operating power directly from the Hydro-X master controller via RJ12 cable — no separate power supply needed.

An LCD screen on the face of the TS-2 displays the active temperature setpoint alongside the current measured temperature, giving in-room confirmation of the control state at a glance.

Who It's Built For

The TS-2 is the right module for any licensed cultivation facility running split systems, mini-splits, packaged units, or heat pumps that currently rely on a dumb wall thermostat. If your HVAC isn't communicating with your environmental controller, you're operating open-loop — and that means temperature variance between lights-on and lights-off periods that isn't being corrected automatically.

Facilities with multiple flower rooms, each on its own HVAC circuit, benefit most. A single Hydro-X master controller can address up to four TS modules simultaneously, each with independent Day and Night setpoints tied to the photocell or schedule running on the master. That's four separate HVAC systems — heat pumps, conventional splits, or a mix — all dialed in from one controller.

It also suits operators retrofitting existing rooms where a communicating thermostat is either incompatible with the installed HVAC brand or where the owner simply wants all climate control consolidated under the Hydro-X platform rather than managed across multiple proprietary app ecosystems.

Key Features and Control Logic

Day/Night setpoint control is the core function. The Hydro-X master pushes separate temperature targets to each TS-2 based on the active photoperiod. When the measured temperature moves outside the active setpoint, the TS-2 switches the HVAC into Cooling Mode or Heating Mode automatically — no manual input required at the thermostat.

Adjustable activation delay timers are a critical feature for facilities running multiple HVAC units off the same electrical service. Rather than all units attempting to start simultaneously and drawing peak inrush current at the same moment, the TS-2 staggers each unit's start. This protects compressors, reduces stress on facility electrical panels, and allows up to four HVAC systems to be safely coordinated without a hard-start surge.

Firmware is field-upgradeable via Micro-SD card (32 GB or smaller), meaning TrolMaster can push control logic updates as the Hydro-X platform evolves without requiring hardware replacement. Address assignment is configurable directly on the module, enabling clean multi-unit addressing on a shared RJ12 daisy-chain.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a multi-room facility, the TS-2 typically sits at the point where the HVAC thermostat cable terminates — near the air handler or on the room wall. It connects to the Hydro-X bus via the included 16 ft RJ12 cable (with a 4 ft secondary and T-splitter included for daisy-chaining), keeping it well within reach of standard room layouts without extension runs.

For operators already running the TrolMaster Hydro-X platform for lighting, CO2, humidity, and irrigation triggers, the TS-2 closes the last gap in automated climate management: HVAC response. Temperature control becomes as precise and schedulable as any other environmental parameter in the room.

Operators building new facilities or expanding into additional rooms should spec one TS-2 per HVAC circuit. At up to four TS modules per Hydro-X master, smaller facilities can cover all zones without adding a second master controller. Larger multi-zone facilities can scale by adding additional Hydro-X masters, each supporting its own bank of TS-2 stations.
