What the DST-1 Does

The DST-1 is a single-channel temperature control relay station designed exclusively for the TrolMaster Hydro-X environmental control platform. It inserts between the Hydro-X controller and any standard 120V heating or cooling load — HVAC, portable AC, space heater, exhaust fan — and executes the on/off commands the controller generates based on your programmed setpoints and sensor data.

The relay accepts the full international input voltage range (100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz), so it is compatible with any standard North American 120V circuit. Output is hard-switched at up to 10 amps, which covers the vast majority of single-unit heaters and cooling devices used in commercial cultivation rooms. If your load runs on 240V, TrolMaster's DST-2 is the correct variant — the DST-1 is rated for 120V loads.

Who This Is For

The DST-1 is the right module for licensed cannabis and hemp operators who are already running — or speccing — the TrolMaster Hydro-X system and need to bring temperature-control loads under automated control. Each DST-1 controls one device circuit, so multi-zone facilities or rooms with both a heating and a cooling device will typically need one station per controlled load.

This station is also the correct solution when expanding an existing Hydro-X install. The RJ12 bus topology means adding a DST-1 is as simple as daisy-chaining from the nearest T-splitter, pressing the address button to link the module to the controller, and assigning the temperature zone logic in the Hydro-X app. No new controller hardware is required.

Plug-and-play addressing: pressing the small button on the module links it to the Hydro-X controller. The onboard LED gives immediate status feedback — fast green blink means not yet addressed or connection lost; slow green blink means addressed and relay currently off; solid green means the relay is active and the connected device is running. This makes commissioning and live troubleshooting fast without opening the unit or checking an app.

The 3-prong attaching plug and RJ12 cable socket are the same standard used across all Hydro-X device stations, so cable runs and splitters are fully interchangeable with the rest of the Hydro-X ecosystem. The included 16 ft and 4 ft RJ12 cables give flexibility in routing — use the long run from the controller hub to the first station, and the short cable for tight local daisy-chains.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a multi-room facility, a DST-1 is typically deployed at the room level — one per temperature-controlled device per room. The Hydro-X system supports multiple device stations on the same controller, so a single Hydro-X controller can manage heating and cooling across an entire facility zone by zone, with each DST-1 independently addressable and independently programmed.

Because the DST-1 operates at the relay level (simple on/off switching), it works with virtually any 120V load that operates in a switched-power mode. For variable-speed or 0-10V control of HVAC or fan equipment, TrolMaster's dedicated adapters handle that protocol — the DST-1 is best suited to devices that respond correctly to simple power interruption. Pair it with a TrolMaster temperature/humidity sensor feeding the Hydro-X controller for a fully closed-loop temperature management circuit.
