What the MBS-PRO Measures

The MBS-PRO captures the four environmental variables that drive automated climate decisions in a TrolMaster-managed grow room: air temperature, relative humidity, CO2 concentration in parts per million, and light presence via onboard photocell. Consolidating all four into one unit reduces the number of cable runs, sensor mounting points, and potential failure nodes compared to running discrete sensors for each parameter.

Each unit includes a built-in LCD display that shows current readings at the sensor itself — useful during room walk-throughs when you need a quick canopy-level snapshot without pulling up the controller interface or the mobile app. At typical canopy-height placement, you get an accurate, localized picture of conditions exactly where they matter.

System Compatibility — Know Before You Buy

The MBS-PRO is designed specifically for the Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2) and Hydro-X Plus (HCS-3) controllers. It is not compatible with the original Hydro-X (HCS-1), which uses the older MBS-1 and MBS-2 sensor family. The difference is a connector and signal protocol change, not a firmware issue — so this is a hard incompatibility, not something a firmware update resolves.

One required accessory: the SPH-1 supplemental power module. CO2 sensing draws more current than the RJ12 connection to the controller can source on its own, so the SPH-1 must be factored into the bill of materials for any MBS-PRO deployment. The sensor itself connects via a push-lock RJ12 connector for clean, secure installation.

Multi-Zone Deployment in Commercial Facilities

The Hydro-X Pro supports up to 50 MBS-PRO sensors on a single controller. In practice, this means a multi-zone facility — separate veg, early flower, late flower, and dry rooms under one roof — can run from a single HCS-2 or HCS-3 without adding controllers. Each sensor can feed the system individually or be averaged with neighboring sensors to produce a composite zone reading.

Zone-level assignment is where the architecture becomes operationally useful: you can link a specific MBS-PRO to specific control outputs — say, the CO2 reading from sensor 3 in zone B drives only the CO2 device station for that zone, while temperature from the same sensor governs that zone's HVAC module. This gives commercial operators sub-zone precision without the cost and complexity of separate controllers per room.

The water-resistant injection-molded enclosure is rated for the humidity levels typical of commercial grow environments (up to 90% RH operating maximum), and the sensor's compact form factor makes canopy-height or mid-room mounting straightforward in most racking configurations.

For any licensed operator already running or speccing a TrolMaster Hydro-X Pro or Hydro-X Plus control system, the MBS-PRO is the native sensor the system is designed around.
