RJ12 Waterproof Straight-Through Inline Coupler

What It Is

The TrolMaster ECW-1 is a straight-through inline coupler that joins two RJ12 cables end-to-end, extending the reach of any cable run within a TrolMaster control network. Unlike a standard open-body coupler, the ECW-1 is built around a sealed, IP68-rated housing that blocks water and vapor intrusion at the join point — the spot most likely to fail in a wet or high-humidity grow environment.

The RJ12 (6P6C) format is the native connector used across the entire TrolMaster Hydro-X ecosystem: controllers, sensors, device stations, and control modules all communicate over this standard. Sensors and device stations in the Hydro-X system daisy-chain together via RJ12 cables, with the network capable of spanning up to 1,000 ft (300 m) from controller to end device. The ECW-1 lets you hit that range without sacrificing the sealed integrity of the connection at the extension point.

Where It Fits in a Commercial Build

Any licensed facility running TrolMaster Hydro-X, Hydro-X Plus, or Hydro-X Pro controllers will encounter routing challenges — sensors mounted at canopy level, CO2 probes across a wide room, or device stations near HVAC units that are too far from the controller for a single stock cable to reach. The ECW-1 solves that cleanly: two existing RJ12 cables connect through the coupler, the sealed housing keeps moisture out of the join, and the straight-through wiring preserves signal integrity so the controller communicates with the downstream module exactly as it would over a single run.

Facilities using the Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2) can connect up to 50 sensors and 50 control modules on a single controller. Multi-zone rooms, large-footprint flower buildings, and vertically racked spaces all require cable runs that exceed the length of the cables bundled with each module. The ECW-1 is a compact, low-cost fix that keeps those extended runs IP68-protected rather than relying on an open coupler that will eventually oxidize or arc in a humid room.

Compatibility and System Context

The ECW-1 is compatible with the full TrolMaster Hydro-X product line: Hydro-X (HCS-1), Hydro-X Plus, and Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2), as well as Aqua-X and other TrolMaster systems that use the RJ12 bus for sensors and modules. Compatible downstream devices include temperature/humidity sensors, CO2 sensors, PAR/light sensors, lighting control adapters, fan speed controllers, timer device stations, CO2 control modules, and any other module in the TrolMaster ecosystem that terminates in an RJ12 plug.

For facilities that need to build their own cable runs from scratch, TrolMaster recommends flat RJ12 cable with a straight-through configuration and 6P6C crimp ends. The ECW-1 pairs with those custom runs the same way it pairs with factory TrolMaster cables. It also works alongside the TrolMaster ECS-1 Extension Cable Set when additional cable length — rather than a mid-run join — is needed.
