Portable pH/Conductivity/TDS Meter Kit

Four-parameter field accuracy — pH, EC, TDS, and temperature in one IP57-rated kit.

The Apera PC400 (SKU: AI413) is a professional-grade portable meter that simultaneously reads pH, EC, TDS, and temperature using two dedicated, dual-sensor electrodes. IP57-rated and supplied as a complete field kit, it's built to hold up in the humidity, fertigation splash, and daily wear of a commercial grow environment.

What the PC400 Is

The Apera PC400 is a portable, handheld multi-parameter meter that measures pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), and temperature in a single unit. It ships as a complete kit: the meter body, two dedicated electrodes, six bottles of calibration solution, and a rugged carry case — everything a head grower or cultivation technician needs to run accurate field checks from day one.

Two separate, high-quality electrodes do the work: the 201T-S 3-in-1 combination electrode handles pH and temperature; the BPB (Brush-Resistant Platinum Black) 2301T-S electrode covers EC and temperature. Each electrode integrates its own temperature sensor, so automatic temperature compensation runs independently on both measurement channels without switching probes or modes.

Why It Fits Commercial Cannabis and Hemp Operations

In a licensed cultivation facility, pH and EC aren't spot-checks — they're ongoing process controls. Feed water pH, runoff EC, reservoir concentration, tissue-water spot tests: these readings happen multiple times per shift across multiple zones. A meter that can't survive a wet bench, a dropped carry case, or daily fertigation splatter is a liability.

The PC400's IP57 waterproof and dustproof rating means the meter body can take submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes — it handles rinse water and bench splash without issue. The BPB conductivity sensor is specifically designed to resist the biofouling and electrode passivation that shortens standard conductivity probe life in nutrient-rich environments. For operations running coco, rockwool, or recirculating hydro, that electrode chemistry matters.

Key Features and Calibration

The large backlit LCD displays pH (or EC/TDS) and temperature simultaneously — no toggling between screens to record both values. Stable-reading and auto-lock icons remove guesswork about when a measurement has settled. The built-in microprocessor enables auto calibration (up to 3 points for pH, up to 4 points for EC), automatic calibration solution recognition, and a Smart Self-Diagnosis function that evaluates probe condition and flags calibration problems before they produce bad data.

Parameter settings are fully configurable: TDS conversion factor, temperature coefficient, solution standard series (USA or NIST), backlight duration, and auto power-off timing. A low-battery reminder and calibration-time check are also built in. For teams running multiple meters across shifts, these configurable defaults allow consistent standardization across the whole instrument set.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

The PC400 is well-suited as the day-to-day workhorse meter for cultivation technicians who need reliable pH and EC verification at the canopy, at the fertigation manifold, and at the drain. Its carry case keeps both electrodes protected and calibration solutions organized during transport between zones or facilities — useful in multi-site operations where meters move with personnel.

For facilities that also need ORP measurement (useful in water treatment and disinfection verification), the PC400 meter body is compatible with the separately available 301Pt-S ORP electrode, extending the platform without requiring a new meter. Replacement electrodes — the 201T-S and 2301T-S — are stocked as individual parts, so the meter body remains serviceable over a long operational life rather than being replaced as a whole unit when a probe wears out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the PC400 measure pH and EC at the same time, or do I have to switch modes?

The display shows pH (or EC/TDS) and temperature simultaneously on a single screen. Switching between the conductivity and pH channels is a single-tap operation — both electrodes stay connected and active. You don't need to swap probes to move between parameters.

How often does the PC400 need to be calibrated, and what solutions does it use?

Calibration frequency depends on use intensity and solution exposure, but in commercial cultivation most operators calibrate pH daily and EC at least weekly. The meter performs 1–3 point auto-calibration for pH (with automatic buffer recognition using USA or NIST standard solutions) and 1–4 point auto-calibration for EC. The kit ships with six bottles of calibration solution. A built-in Smart Self-Diagnosis function evaluates probe condition and flags when calibration is off or the electrode is degrading.

What is the IP57 rating, and does it mean the meter can be rinsed under a faucet?

IP57 means the meter is rated for dust-tight protection (6 = complete) and water immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Rinsing the meter body and electrodes under a faucet is well within that rating. It's designed for harsh field environments — wet benches, fertigation areas, and greenhouse conditions are all appropriate use cases.

Can the PC400 measure ORP in addition to pH, EC, and TDS?

The PC400 meter body supports ORP measurement, but the ORP electrode (301Pt-S) is sold separately and is not included in the AI413 kit. If your operation requires ORP monitoring — common in water treatment and disinfection verification — the electrode can be added to the same meter without purchasing a new unit.

What happens when the pH or EC electrode wears out — do I have to replace the whole meter?

No. The 201T-S pH electrode and the 2301T-S EC electrode are both available as individual replacement parts. The meter body is designed for a long service life with electrode replacement as needed, rather than treating the whole kit as a disposable unit. Warranty covers the instrument for 2 years and the probes for 6 months from delivery.
