The Apera EC400S (SKU AI422) is a handheld, multi-parameter water quality meter designed for accurate conductivity measurement under real-world field conditions. It measures electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, and resistivity simultaneously, converting between parameters from a single calibration in conductivity mode. The meter is built around Apera's proprietary BPB (Brush-Resistant Platinum Black) conductivity sensor — a design that minimizes electrode polarization, extends measurement range, and holds accuracy more consistently over time than standard stainless-steel electrodes.
The meter covers a wide EC range of 0 to 200 mS/cm across multiple sub-ranges (down to 0.00–19.99 µS/cm at the low end and up to 20.0–199.9 mS/cm at the high end), making it equally useful for RO or filtered source water checks and high-strength feed solutions. TDS reads out to 100 g/L; salinity to 100 ppt; resistivity to 100 MΩ·cm. Temperature is measured simultaneously with ±0.5°C accuracy across a 0 to 80°C range, and auto temperature compensation (ATC) adjusts EC readings for accuracy across varying solution temperatures.

No. TDS, salinity, and resistivity are all derived proportionally from the conductivity reading. Calibrating in EC mode is sufficient — the meter automatically calculates the other parameters from that single calibration. You can adjust the TDS conversion factor (0.40–1.00) to match your specific nutrient solution profile.
The kit ships with premixed calibration standard solutions ready to use out of the box. The meter supports 1 to 4 point auto-calibration with automatic standard recognition — you do not need to manually enter standard values.
The EC400S connects to a Windows-based PC via USB and comes with PC software support. You can either offload stored data from the onboard 500-group GLP memory or run real-time data capture to the PC directly. USB also functions as a power supply, allowing continuous operation without batteries.
The Apera 2301T-S BPB conductivity electrode is a user-replaceable part. When the probe reaches end of life, you replace the electrode only — not the meter body. Replacement probes are available as a separate part through HSC.
IP57 means the meter is fully dustproof (6 on the solid-particle scale) and rated for temporary immersion in water up to 1 meter depth for up to 30 minutes. For a commercial grow — humid rooms, irrigation lines, frequent wash-downs — this provides genuine protection rather than splash-resistance only.
