Lab-grade pH measurement for strong acidic and HF-containing solutions, field-portable with Bluetooth data management.
The Apera PH60Z-HF (SKU AI3745) pairs the PH60Z smart meter body with the Swiss LabSen 835 pH/temperature electrode — a combination purpose-built for strong acidic solutions and liquids containing hydrofluoric acid, where standard glass membranes fail. IP67-rated, Bluetooth-connected, and packaged as a complete ready-to-use kit.
The PH60Z-HF is a purpose-configured smart handheld pH meter kit from Apera Instruments, designed specifically for water solutions containing strong acids or hydrofluoric acid — sample types that corrode and neutralize standard pH glass membranes quickly. The core of the kit is the LabSen 835, a glass-body pH/temperature electrode built with Swiss sensor technology and a specialized HF-resistant membrane that minimizes acidic measurement error and resists hydrofluoric corrosion.
The LabSen 835 electrode is rated for up to 1,000 HF measurements (with measurement time under 1 minute and HF concentration below 0.1 mol/L or 2,000 ppm). The meter body measures pH, mV, and temperature, is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and carries an IP67 waterproof/dustproof rating — meaning it floats if dropped in water. Calibration buffers (pH 1.68, 7.00, and 10.01), soaking solution, and the Apera CalPod Solution Organizer are all included in the kit, housed in a rugged carry case.
Commercial and licensed cannabis and hemp operators who use strong acidic nutrient formulations, pH-down products, or facility cleaning chemistries that push solution pH into extreme low ranges will encounter reading drift and rapid electrode degradation with general-purpose pH pens. The PH60Z-HF addresses that directly: the LabSen 835's Silver Ion Trap Reference System and open-junction polymer electrolyte maintain reference potential stability over time and eliminate junction clogging — failure modes that kill standard Ag/AgCl reference systems in aggressive acidic media.
It is also the correct tool for any QA/QC or compliance context where documented, time-stamped pH records are required — extraction facilities, post-harvest processing, or any operation running acidified water or chemical cleaning validation that needs to defend its measurements against an audit. The ZenTest app provides geo-tagged, time-stamped cloud data records out of the box.
The LabSen 835 electrode employs a Silver Ion Trap Reference System paired with an open junction and polymer electrolyte. This design outperforms conventional Ag/AgCl systems by maintaining reference potential stability in acidic, HF-containing environments and eliminating junction clogs — both of which directly extend electrode service life. The glass membrane is rated 10 times stronger than traditional membranes and includes a built-in temperature sensor for automatic temperature compensation (ATC) across 0–100°C.
The PH60Z meter body delivers ±0.01 pH accuracy with 0.01 pH resolution across a -2.00 to 16.00 pH range. Auto-calibration (1–3 points) with buffer recognition, automatic stable-value lock, self-diagnosis, a 3-color backlit LCD (blue/green/red for measurement/calibration/alarm states), and up to 2,000 hours of battery life on AAA batteries round out the hardware. Bluetooth connectivity links to the ZenTest mobile app (iOS and Android), which provides cloud-based data logging, notes, photo attachments, and geo-location tagging for every reading.
For cannabis and hemp cultivation and processing facilities, the PH60Z-HF covers the measurement scenarios where standard pocket testers fall short: strong acidic nutrient concentrates, pH-down solutions, and any post-process chemistry with low-pH or HF-adjacent character. Because it also works well in general water solutions, it can serve double duty across routine fertigation checks and specialized acidic sample work without needing a second instrument.
The complete kit format — calibration buffers, soaking solution, CalPod organizer, and carry case — means the meter is deployable immediately and consistently. Calibration buffer traceability (pH 1.68, 7.00, 10.01) matches the low end of the pH range where strong-acid measurements occur, so calibration error does not compound into measurement error at the points that matter most. The ZenTest app's cloud data trail supports operational record-keeping for quality management programs and state-required documentation without additional software.

Standard glass pH membranes are attacked by hydrofluoric acid and exhibit significant acidic error in highly concentrated strong-acid solutions. The LabSen 835 electrode uses a specialized HF-resistant membrane and a Silver Ion Trap reference system designed to maintain reading stability and electrode integrity in these conditions. A standard pen will drift rapidly, give inaccurate readings, and have its electrode destroyed far sooner than its rated service life.
The LabSen 835 is rated for HF concentrations below 0.1 mol/L (approximately 2,000 ppm) with measurement time under 1 minute per reading. Within those parameters, the electrode is rated for up to 1,000 HF measurements. Exceeding the stated concentration or dwell time will accelerate membrane degradation.
The PH60Z-HF kit includes the PH60Z smart meter body, the LabSen 835 HF pH/temperature electrode, ready-to-use calibration buffer solutions (pH 1.68, 7.00, and 10.01), soaking solution, the Apera CalPod Solution Organizer, AAA batteries, and a rugged carrying case. Everything needed to calibrate and begin measuring is included out of the box.
The ZenTest app is a free download available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Once connected via Bluetooth, it logs every measurement with a timestamp, geo-location, user notes, and optional photo attachments. Data is saved to cloud storage, so records are available even if the phone or meter is lost or replaced — useful for any facility maintaining a documented QA or compliance record.
The LabSen 835 uses an 8-pin connector and is compatible with Apera pocket testers fitted with an 8-pin socket (including the PH60 and PH60-Z series) as well as Apera benchtop and multiparameter meters with 8-pin connectors such as the PH400, PC400, PH400S, PC400S, SX751, and SX736. If your facility already runs Apera benchtop equipment, the electrode can serve both field and lab instruments.
