Lab-grade pH measurement in strong acid and HF-containing solutions — field-portable, Swiss-sensor precision.
The Apera PH60-HF (AI3729) combines the IP67-rated PH60 handheld meter with the Swiss LabSen 835 pH/temperature electrode — an HF-resistant, corrosion-tolerant sensor engineered for accurate readings in hydrofluoric acid and strong acidic solutions where standard electrodes fail. The complete kit includes calibration buffer solutions, soaking solution, CalPod Solution Organizer, and a rugged carrying case.
The Apera PH60-HF is a purpose-built handheld pH meter kit designed for one specific problem: accurate pH measurement in solutions that destroy ordinary electrodes. It pairs the Apera PH60 meter body — IP67 waterproof, 3-point auto-calibrating, field-proven across industrial and scientific applications — with the Swiss LabSen 835 pH/temperature electrode, which incorporates a specialized HF-resistant membrane that standard glass electrodes cannot survive.
The LabSen 835 electrode is rated for up to 1,000 HF measurements (measurement time under one minute, HF concentration below 0.1 mol/L or 2,000 ppm). It also handles general strong acidic solutions and performs reliably in standard aqueous solutions, making this kit adaptable beyond single-application use.
Everything ships ready to use: pre-mixed calibration buffer solutions, soaking solution, the Apera CalPod Solution Organizer to keep calibration materials organized in the field, AAA batteries, lanyard, and a rugged carrying case. No separate purchases needed to get started.
Any cultivation or processing operation working with nutrient concentrates, acidic pH-down solutions, cleaning compounds, or specialized chemical inputs at high concentration levels will eventually run into the limitations of a standard pH probe. At strong acid concentrations, ordinary Ag/AgCl reference systems drift, junctions clog, and glass membranes erode — leading to bad reads that compromise fertigation accuracy or cleaning verification.
The PH60-HF is the right tool for: QC testing of concentrated acid inputs before dilution, verifying pH in acidic cleaning or sanitation solutions, nutrient reservoir monitoring when working with high-concentration formulations, and any application where a standard probe has given inconsistent or shortened-life performance. It is equally suited to lab environments, grow facility control rooms, and field-use scenarios where portability and waterproofing are non-negotiable.
Licensed cannabis and hemp operators running coco, rockwool, or deep water culture at scale often push pH-down solutions at concentrations that shorten conventional probe life. This kit is built for that environment.
Meter body: The PH60 runs ±0.01 pH and ±0.5°C accuracy across a -2.00 to 16.00 pH range with 0–50°C automatic temperature compensation (ATC). Calibration is up to 3-point auto (pH 4.00 / 7.00 / 10.01) with automatic recognition of five buffer types (1.68, 4.00, 7.00, 10.01, 12.45). The three-color backlit LCD — blue for measurement, green for calibration, red for out-of-range alerts — gives unambiguous mode indication. Stable-value recognition auto-locks readings with a visual indicator, removing guesswork from manual hold. Battery life reaches up to 2,000 hours continuous (without backlight), with auto power-off after 8 minutes of inactivity. IP67 rated — submersible and floats.
LabSen 835 electrode: The HF-resistant membrane is manufactured in Switzerland and is engineered to minimize the acidic error that compromises standard glass electrodes in low-pH, high-acid environments. The reference system uses a Silver Ion Trap architecture with open junction and polymer electrolyte — this design eliminates the junction clogging that kills standard Ag/AgCl probes and maintains stable reference potential over time. The glass membrane is rated at 10× the strength of traditional glass membranes. A built-in temperature sensor feeds the ATC system directly, ensuring compensation accuracy at the electrode tip.
The LabSen 835 electrode is also compatible with other Apera meters fitted with 8-pin connectors (PH400, PC400, PH400S, PC400S, SX751, SX736, and others), giving operators flexibility to use the electrode across a bench or handheld meter inventory.
Consistency in pH measurement is a compliance and crop-quality issue. Inaccurate readings — caused by a degraded probe, a clogged junction, or the wrong electrode type for the solution chemistry — introduce variability into every fertigation event, every cleaning verification, and every QC log. The PH60-HF removes the electrode-compatibility variable from strong-acid applications entirely.
The CalPod Solution Organizer included in the kit keeps calibration buffers and soaking solution accessible and properly labeled, which matters in a busy facility where multiple staff may be using instruments across shifts. The rugged carrying case protects the full kit during transport between rooms or facilities.
Probe replacement is straightforward — the LabSen 835 is a field-replaceable electrode, so when the electrode reaches end-of-service life (up to 1,000 HF measurements), the meter body is preserved. Apera's warranty covers the instrument for 2 years and the probe for 6 months from delivery. Standard glass pH electrodes are susceptible to two failure modes in highly acidic or HF-containing solutions: (1) acidic error, where the glass membrane responds incorrectly at very low pH due to interference from high hydrogen ion activity, and (2) hydrofluoric acid corrosion, which physically degrades standard glass membranes. The LabSen 835's HF-resistant membrane directly addresses both issues. Its Silver Ion Trap reference system also prevents the junction clogging that disables standard Ag/AgCl probes in aggressive solution chemistry.
The LabSen 835 electrode is rated for solutions with HF concentration below 0.1 mol/L (2,000 ppm). Each measurement should take less than one minute. The electrode is rated for up to 1,000 HF measurement cycles under those conditions.
Yes. The LabSen 835 uses an 8-pin connector and is compatible with Apera pocket testers that support 8-pin electrodes (including PH60 and PH60-Z) as well as benchtop/multiparameter meters such as the PH400, PC400, PH400S, PC400S, SX751, and SX736. If you're already running Apera meters in your facility, the 835 electrode can likely be used across your existing equipment.
The PH60 supports up to 3-point automatic calibration at pH 4.00, 7.00, and 10.01. It automatically recognizes five buffer types: 1.68, 4.00, 7.00, 10.01, and 12.45. The kit includes pre-mixed calibration buffer solutions ready to use out of the box.
Yes. The LabSen 835 electrode works well in general aqueous solutions, including standard nutrient feed water at normal cultivation pH ranges. The PH60-HF is a purpose-built kit for strong acid and HF environments, but it is not limited to those applications — it functions as a full-featured pH meter for day-to-day fertigation and reservoir monitoring as well.
