pH Sensor for Reservoir

Continuous reservoir pH monitoring, wired into the TrolMaster Aqua-X ecosystem.

The TrolMaster PPH-1 is a dedicated reservoir pH sensor engineered for integration with the TrolMaster Aqua-X Irrigation Control System. It delivers real-time pH readings directly to the Aqua-X controller display, giving commercial operators continuous visibility into nutrient solution pH without manual spot-checking.

What the PPH-1 Is

The PPH-1 is a single-cylinder electrode pH probe built specifically for reservoir monitoring within the TrolMaster Aqua-X platform. It does not operate as a standalone meter — it is a system component. The probe connects to the AMP-2 Sensor Board (for Aqua-X NFS-1 setups) or the AMP-3 Sensor Board (for Aqua-X Pro NFS-2, Aqua-X Plus NFS-3, Green-X GCS-1, and Tent-X TCS-1 setups). Once connected, pH readings appear on the Aqua-X controller's display and are logged with historical data accessible on-unit and via the TrolMaster smartphone app.

The probe ships with a storage cap. TrolMaster is explicit that pH electrodes must remain stored wet — in proper probe storage solution with the cap in place — when not submerged. A dried-out probe will not read accurately, and probes returned in a dry state are ineligible for warranty coverage. For commercial operations running the sensor continuously, this is generally a non-issue; it becomes relevant during facility shutdowns or when swapping probes for recalibration.

Who This Sensor Is For

The PPH-1 is the right choice for any licensed cannabis or hemp cultivation facility already running — or planning to run — TrolMaster Aqua-X irrigation control. It slots directly into the Aqua-X sensor ecosystem alongside the PCT-1 reservoir EC/Temp sensor and WCS-series water content sensors, giving a production team complete fertigation data in one controller interface.

Operators running recirculating hydroponic systems, NFT channels, deep water culture, or any reservoir-fed substrate strategy will benefit most. Rather than pulling a handheld meter multiple times per shift, the PPH-1 keeps a live pH reading visible on the controller and can trigger mobile alerts when pH drifts outside a programmed threshold — useful for multi-room and multi-zone facilities where a technician cannot be at every reservoir constantly.

Key Features and Integration Notes

The 3.6-meter (approximately 11.8-foot) cable provides enough reach to position the controller and sensor board at wall height while the probe sits in a floor-level or bench-level reservoir. The BNC terminal connection to the AMP-2 is a standard, secure interface — no proprietary locking mechanism to deal with during probe swaps.

Controller compatibility spans the full current Aqua-X line: NFS-1 (via AMP-2), NFS-2 / NFS-3 / GCS-1 / TCS-1 (via AMP-3). If a facility is running multiple reservoirs on an NFS-2 or NFS-3 setup, the Aqua-X Pro architecture supports monitoring pH, EC, temperature, and moisture across up to 50 sensors — the PPH-1 feeds into that same data layer. pH alarm thresholds are user-programmable on the controller; when measured pH exceeds the configured range, a warning pushes to the operator's smartphone via the TrolMaster TM+ app.

How the PPH-1 Fits a Commercial Build

For a facility spec'ing out a TrolMaster-based irrigation and fertigation infrastructure, the PPH-1 is a line-item accessory that completes the water quality monitoring stack. The typical commercial reservoir monitoring build on Aqua-X pairs a PPH-1 (pH) with a PCT-1 (EC + temperature) on the same AMP-2 or AMP-3 sensor board. Together they give the Aqua-X controller the data it needs to flag nutrient solution deviations before they affect plant uptake.

Probe calibration is periodic maintenance — standard two-point or three-point calibration using pH buffer solutions. TrolMaster recommends keeping the storage cap and probe storage solution on hand for any periods when the probe is out of solution. For large-scale SOPs, scheduling regular calibration checks into the weekly IPM or fertigation audit is standard practice. HSC can supply the PPH-1 individually or as part of a broader TrolMaster Aqua-X system build — reach out for a quote on the full stack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the PPH-1 work with the Aqua-X Pro (NFS-2) and Aqua-X Plus (NFS-3), or only the original NFS-1?

It works across the full Aqua-X line. On the NFS-1, the PPH-1 connects via the AMP-2 Sensor Board. On the NFS-2, NFS-3, Green-X (GCS-1), and Tent-X (TCS-1) controllers, it connects via the AMP-3 Sensor Board. The AMP-3 uses a standard RJ12 cable rather than the DIN connection on the AMP-2, so make sure you have the correct sensor board for your controller generation.

Can the Aqua-X system trigger an alert if reservoir pH goes out of range?

Yes. pH alarm thresholds are user-programmable on the Aqua-X controller. When the PPH-1 reads a value outside your configured range, the system pushes a warning notification to your smartphone via the TrolMaster TM+ app. This is one of the primary reasons commercial facilities integrate the PPH-1 rather than relying on manual spot-checks.

How often does the PPH-1 need to be calibrated, and what does that involve?

TrolMaster does not publish a fixed calibration interval — industry standard practice for a continuous-immersion electrode probe is calibration every 1–4 weeks depending on nutrient solution chemistry and usage intensity. Calibration uses standard pH buffer solutions (typically pH 4.0 and 7.0 for two-point calibration). The calibration procedure is performed through the Aqua-X controller interface.

What happens if the probe is stored dry?

A pH electrode that dries out completely will no longer read accurately. TrolMaster requires that all pH probes be stored with the storage cap in place and filled with proper probe storage solution whenever the probe is not submerged. Probes returned in a dry state are explicitly excluded from warranty coverage.

Can I use the PPH-1 without a full Aqua-X irrigation controller — as a standalone reservoir monitor?

No. The PPH-1 is a system sensor, not a standalone meter. It requires connection to an AMP-2 or AMP-3 Sensor Board, which in turn connects to a compatible TrolMaster Aqua-X controller (NFS-1, NFS-2, NFS-3, GCS-1, or TCS-1). It has no independent display or readout. If you need a standalone handheld or benchtop pH meter, that is a different product category.
