What It Is

The Matrix DE 1000W is a double-ended High-Pressure Sodium fixture built specifically for professional indoor cultivation and commercial greenhouse production. This 480V variant — SKU 10-010101-172 — targets facilities with high-voltage electrical infrastructure, where running 480V service lowers amperage draw per circuit and simplifies panel loading across large flowering rooms.

The fixture ships with the Matrix 1000W DE HPS lamp already included. That lamp runs a 2100K color temperature, placing its spectral energy deep in the red range that supports flower development, bud density, and late-stage ripening — the wavelengths most relevant during bloom. The DE arc tube design distributes photons more evenly than single-ended configurations, contributing to the fixture's 2,200 µmol/s total output and 2.1 µmol/J efficacy rating.

Three voltage builds are available across the Matrix DE line (208–277V, 347V, 480V). If your facility runs a different service voltage, HSC carries the appropriate variant. The 480V build reviewed here is the right spec for operators whose electrical infrastructure is configured for 480V three-phase or single-phase service.

Who It's For

This fixture is suited for licensed cannabis and hemp operators running dedicated flower rooms that require proven HPS output. Double-ended HPS technology remains the benchmark for commercial bloom cycles in facilities where the heat profile is manageable and the priority is maximum red-spectrum photon density at a known cost per fixture.

The 480V build is the right choice for any cultivation facility whose electrical engineer has specified high-voltage service. Large-scale multi-light rooms benefit from the reduced amperage draw at 480V — fewer circuits, smaller conductors, and more headroom on existing panels. If you're speccing a new flowering room build or retrofitting an existing high-voltage facility, the Matrix DE 1000W 480V integrates directly into that infrastructure without requiring step-down transformers.

Operators who already run a mixed lighting strategy — HPS for flower rooms, supplemental LED for veg or undercanopy — will find the Matrix DE fits cleanly alongside other fixtures in the Matrix line, including the Matrix Hybrid for teams moving toward hybrid HPS/LED builds in future rooms.

Key Features

The reflector uses aluminum with over 98% reflectivity, redirecting nearly all lamp output toward the canopy rather than losing it as heat or scatter at the fixture body. Even light distribution across the 4′ × 4′ flower footprint reduces hot spots and supports more consistent canopy development across a room.

Wattage control is one of the standout practical features of this fixture. Six discrete wattage steps — 600W, 660W, 750W, 825W, 1000W, and 1150W — let growers dial output to match canopy stage, ambient temperature targets, or target PPFD levels without swapping equipment. External 0–10V control input allows the same fixture to be integrated into building automation or lighting control systems for automated dimming schedules.

The lamp is field-replaceable, which is important for multi-year operational planning in large rooms. Rather than replacing the entire fixture when a lamp reaches end-of-life, operators swap the DE HPS lamp and the fixture continues. Replacement Matrix DE lamps are available separately through HSC. Note: a compatible power cord (M19 connector) is sold separately and must be specified at time of order.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a standard commercial flower room layout, the Matrix DE 1000W 480V is designed around a 4′ × 4′ canopy footprint per fixture. Room designers speccing at 1,000–1,200 µmol/m²/s at canopy for cannabis flower should plan hanging height and fixture density using the 2,200 µmol/s output figure as their starting point and validate against the specific room geometry.

The six-step wattage selector means the same fixture covers early-stage flower (lower wattage, lower heat load) through peak bloom (full 1000W or 1150W super-lumen) without hardware changes. This flexibility is valuable in facilities that run multiple strains with different DLI targets in the same room on a rotating basis.

For facilities considering the Matrix DE Reflector accessory, it is compatible with this fixture and provides additional control over light spread geometry — useful when canopy width, aisle spacing, or rack configuration requires a more targeted beam angle. Contact HSC to discuss reflector compatibility and room layout for your specific build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this fixture come with the DE HPS lamp, or is the lamp sold separately?

The lamp is included. This SKU (10-010101-172) ships complete with the Matrix 1000W DE HPS lamp (2100K). Replacement lamps are available separately through HSC when it's time to swap at end-of-lamp-life.

Is a power cord included?

No. The Matrix DE 1000W requires an M19 power cord, which is sold separately. Let HSC know your facility's outlet/plug configuration when placing your order so the correct cord is specified.

What is the difference between the 208–277V and 480V builds?

The core fixture, reflector, lamp, and photon output specs are the same across voltage variants. The 480V build is wired for high-voltage service. Facilities running 480V electrical infrastructure should order this SKU (10-010101-172). Facilities on standard 208V, 240V, or 277V service should order the 208–277V variant. Contact HSC if you need help matching the fixture voltage to your panel spec.

Can I dim the fixture from a lighting controller?

Yes. The fixture supports external 0–10V control input for integration with compatible lighting controllers, including the Matrix MC2 and MC5. It also has six hard-set wattage steps (600 / 660 / 750 / 825 / 1000 / 1150W) selectable directly on the fixture for rooms without controller infrastructure.

Is the Matrix DE 1000W compatible with Matrix DE Reflectors?

Yes. The Matrix DE 1000W fixture is compatible with Matrix DE Reflectors, which can be added to modify light spread geometry for specific room layouts or canopy configurations. HSC can include reflectors in the same order — mention your room dimensions when requesting a quote.
