What's in the Kit and Why It Matters

The GLM8-EXT-KIT contains three components that address the most common sensor-layout problems in a commercial cultivation build. The 5m extension cable adds reach between a sensor and its canopyLINK port — useful any time your sensor placement is dictated by the plant zone rather than by where the hub was mounted. The T-connector lets you branch one M8 port into two cable paths, supporting split-zone monitoring without consuming an additional hub port. The end cap terminates any unused M8 port or branch, blocking moisture and debris from entering the connector and preventing signal noise on open lines.

Together, these three pieces let you design a sensor network around the room's actual geometry rather than around cable length constraints. That matters in large rooms, multi-tier vertical builds, and greenhouse bays where sensors need to be distributed across the canopy rather than clustered near a central hub.

System Compatibility — Growlink LINKS Ecosystem

This kit is purpose-built for Growlink's LINKS sensor architecture. The canopyLINK hub provides eight M8 ports — four-pin, threaded male connections — and each port accepts one sensor: terraLINK or terraLINK+ substrate sensors (measuring VWC, EC, and root-zone temperature), climaLINK climate sensors (temperature, humidity, VPD, light, and optional CO₂), or compatible third-party sensors that carry a 4-pin female M8 connection.

The extension cable maintains the same 4-pin M8 standard as the native sensor cables, so signal integrity is preserved end-to-end. The canopyLINK automatically detects sensors on connection without manual addressing, so adding an extension cable to a sensor run does not require any software configuration — plug the extension between sensor and hub port and the sensor registers normally.

canopyLINK communicates with Growlink OS via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or wired RJ-45 through the LINKS HUB, feeding live substrate and climate data into the platform for crop-steering automation, alerts, and remote monitoring. The M8 cable kit supports that data pipeline without modification.

Build Applications for Licensed Operators

In single-tier rooms, the most common use case is straightforward reach extension: the standard terraLINK sensor ships with a 2m cable, which works fine when the canopyLINK is mounted directly above the bench but falls short in wider rooms or when the hub has to be positioned away from water equipment per Growlink's installation guidance. One 5m extension bridges that gap without relocating the hub.

In multi-tier vertical builds, the T-connector adds value by allowing a single canopyLINK port to serve sensors at different rack levels, branching the cable run rather than consuming two discrete ports. End-capping the unused branch of a T during phase-in keeps the system clean and the unused connector protected until additional sensors are added.

Greenhouse and tunnel operators benefit from the kit's moisture-resistant construction. The M8 connectors are designed to withstand high-humidity environments, daily handling, and the general abuse of a commercial cultivation setting — conditions where an exposed or unsecured connector would introduce intermittent data dropouts and make troubleshooting difficult.

Installation is tool-free. The M8 connectors thread and seat by hand; no crimping, soldering, or rewiring is involved. For operators expanding an existing Growlink LINKS deployment, this kit integrates directly with current hardware. Note that legacy Growlink sensors originally spec'd for the Precision Irrigation Controller (PIC) use a different cable termination and will require an M8 adapter — not this extension kit — to connect to canopyLINK.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this extension cable work with my existing terraLINK substrate sensors?

Yes, provided your terraLINK sensors are the current LINKS-generation units with the 4-pin female M8 connector. The extension cable routes between the sensor's M8 connector and the canopyLINK port without any modification. Legacy PIC-controller terraLINK sensors with bare tinned leads require a separate M8 adapter cable — not this kit.

Can I daisy-chain multiple extension cables for runs longer than 5m?

Growlink does not publish a maximum daisy-chain length for M8 extension cables. For runs beyond 5m, a 10m single extension cable is available. If your project requires longer or more complex cable routing, contact us before ordering so we can confirm compatibility with your specific sensor and hub configuration.

What does the T-connector actually do — does it duplicate the sensor signal to two outputs?

The T-connector splits one M8 port into two cable paths, allowing you to branch a sensor run — for example, reaching sensor positions on two different sides of a room or two tiers of a rack from a single canopyLINK port. The end cap included in the kit is used to properly terminate any unused branch of a T-connection, which prevents signal interference and protects the open connector from moisture.

Do I need to reconfigure anything in Growlink OS after adding the extension cable?

No. The canopyLINK detects compatible sensors automatically on connection without manual addressing. Adding an M8 extension cable between the sensor and the hub port does not change how the sensor is detected or reported in the Growlink platform.
