Lighting Adapter to Convert 0-10V Signals to Digital Signals to Control ThinkGrow LEDs

Bridge any 0-10V controller to ThinkGrow LED fixtures — dual-channel, RS485, plug-and-play.

The TrolMaster LMA-9 is a precision dimming adapter that converts standard 0-10V analog control signals into the digital RS485 protocol used by ThinkGrow LED fixtures, letting operators run ThinkGrow lights from any third-party environmental controller without swapping their control ecosystem. Its dual-channel architecture gives independent dimming control over full-spectrum and supplemental red diodes — a critical capability for spectrum-tuned cultivation programs.

What the LMA-9 Does

ThinkGrow LED fixtures communicate digitally — they don't respond natively to the 0-10V analog dimming signal that most commercial environmental controllers output. The TrolMaster LMA-9 solves that mismatch at the adapter level. It accepts the 0-10V signal from your controller via twin connection cables with 2+2 hardwired terminals, translates it into the digital protocol ThinkGrow drivers expect, and delivers that signal over RS485 to the fixture string through a single RJ12 output port.

RS485 is a differential signaling standard built for long cable runs in electrically noisy environments — well-suited to commercial grow facilities where high-voltage lighting infrastructure creates interference. The LMA-9 interfaces with the controller side through the LMA-14 module, making it a purpose-built piece of the TrolMaster lighting control stack rather than a generic aftermarket adapter.

Dual-Channel Spectrum Control

The LMA-9 supports two separate 0-10V input channels simultaneously. This is significant because ThinkGrow fixtures are designed with independently addressable diode arrays — full-spectrum output on one channel, supplemental red on a second. Without a dual-channel adapter, you lose that capability and are effectively running the fixture as a single-channel light.

With the LMA-9 in place, your controller can schedule and dim full-spectrum output independently from the supplemental red channel — enabling targeted red supplementation during late-flower without pulling the full spectrum up or down. For operations running precise photoperiod and spectrum timing protocols, this gives you the addressability the fixtures were designed for, without requiring a ThinkGrow-native controller.

Installation and Build

The LMA-9 ships with a 12 ft RJ12-to-4-Pin IP65 connector cable (ECS-9) and power/signal connection cables, so the basic integration kit is included in the box. The input side uses hardwired 2+2 terminals on twin cables — a more reliable connection method than clip-on alternatives, particularly in humid or vibration-prone grow environments. The single RJ12 output connects to the first fixture in a ThinkGrow LED string, and from there the digital signal chains through the run.

A built-in LED status indicator on the adapter lets technicians verify signal continuity at the adapter itself — useful during initial setup and when troubleshooting dim or non-responsive fixtures. The operating humidity range is rated up to 90% RH, consistent with typical indoor commercial grow room conditions. Input is 12V DC at 60mA.

Where This Fits in a Commercial Build

The LMA-9 is relevant any time a facility is adding ThinkGrow LED fixtures to an existing control infrastructure built around 0-10V output — TrolMaster Hydro-X, Argus, Priva, or any other environmental controller with standard analog dimming ports. It's also the correct adapter when a facility is standardizing on ThinkGrow LEDs across multiple rooms but wants to retain a single control platform rather than switching to fixture-native control.

For operators already running TrolMaster Hydro-X systems, the LMA-9 fits natively into that stack via the LMA-14 module interface, keeping all room scheduling, dimming curves, and photoperiod logic centralized in the Hydro-X environment. It's a small-format, low-cost integration component — but the right one in the right place means full access to the fixture's spectrum capabilities rather than a watered-down single-channel implementation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the LMA-9 work with a TrolMaster Hydro-X controller?

Yes. The LMA-9 is designed to integrate with TrolMaster's Hydro-X ecosystem via the LMA-14 module. The Hydro-X outputs a standard 0-10V signal that the LMA-9 receives and converts to the digital protocol ThinkGrow fixtures require.

Can I use the LMA-9 with a non-TrolMaster controller?

Yes. Any third-party environmental controller that outputs a standard 0-10V analog dimming signal can drive the LMA-9. The adapter is not locked to TrolMaster hardware on the input side — it's the output side that is ThinkGrow-specific.

Why does dual-channel matter — can't I just run both diode sets from one signal?

ThinkGrow fixtures expose two addressable diode channels — full-spectrum and supplemental red — precisely so they can be controlled independently. A single-channel adapter collapses that into one signal, eliminating the ability to tune red separately. The LMA-9's dual-channel design preserves per-channel control so you can dial in supplemental red without changing full-spectrum output.

How many ThinkGrow fixtures can one LMA-9 drive?

The LMA-9 connects to one ThinkGrow fixture string via the single RJ12 output port. Chain capacity within that string depends on the ThinkGrow fixture model and its daisy-chain specifications. Contact us for configuration guidance specific to your fixture count and room layout.

Is the LMA-9 rated for the humidity levels in a commercial grow room?

The LMA-9 is rated for operating humidity up to 90% RH and includes an IP65-rated cable (ECS-9) for the fixture connection. This covers typical commercial indoor grow and greenhouse environments. The adapter itself should be installed in a protected location, not in direct water spray paths.
