What the Hydro-X Pro Is

The TrolMaster Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2) is a single-zone environmental controller built specifically for commercial and professional cultivation operations. It runs on a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen and pairs with TrolMaster's cloud-connected web software, giving operators full control and visibility from the controller itself, a browser, or the free TrolMaster mobile app.

The HCS-2 expands on the original Hydro-X platform by scaling sensor and module capacity to 50 of each — a significant jump that accommodates larger rooms and more complex equipment sets. It handles lighting, temperature, humidity, CO2, and irrigation coordination in one unit, integrating with most major grow light brands, HVAC systems, mini-split air conditioners, commercial dehumidifiers and humidifiers, and CO2 generators or regulators.

The included MBS-Pro 4-in-1 sensor combines precision air temperature, relative humidity, CO2 (PPM), and a photocell into a single water-resistant enclosure with its own onboard LCD — so you can read conditions at the sensor location without walking back to the controller.

Key Features and Automation Logic

Each environmental variable — temperature, humidity, CO2, and light — is controlled independently. Ramp-up and ramp-down schedules can be configured for each parameter, allowing programmable transitions that simulate natural outdoor conditions or precisely stage the environment across light/dark cycles.

The built-in crop calendar is one of the most operationally useful features for commercial runs. Growers build multi-week crop recipes directly into the controller, specifying lighting schedules, temp and RH targets, CO2 levels, and timers for each phase of the crop cycle. Reminders can be programmed for inspections, reservoir changes, or any scheduled task — and the TrolMaster app pushes notifications with separate day and night alert thresholds.

Onboard data logging captures environmental history, and settings can be saved and transferred between multiple HCS-2 units — useful for multi-room operations maintaining standardized crop protocols across rooms. The system connects to Amazon cloud infrastructure via Ethernet for remote access through TrolMaster's web-based software. Two separate lighting control channels allow management of two different lighting systems with independent setpoints, compatible with TrolMaster's LMA series of lighting adapters.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

The HCS-2 is typically deployed as a wall-mounted single-room brain. Installation uses a wall-mount plate secured with four screws; the controller locks onto capture hooks and connects to sensors, device stations, and Ethernet via labeled rear ports. Device connections are rated up to 1,000 meters from the controller — enough reach for large facilities without signal repeaters.

The MBS-Pro 4-in-1 sensor ships with the HCS-2 kit and can be supplemented with additional MBS-Pro units (up to 50 total) placed at canopy level throughout the room. Sensors can be averaged together for a room-wide reading or assigned individually to specific control devices for zone-level precision. Additional sensor types — including TrolMaster's PAR quantum sensor — can also be integrated, enabling PPFD-based lighting automation where the controller automatically adjusts fixture output to maintain a target light level.

The HCS-2 carries ETL and FCC certifications and a three-year manufacturer's warranty on mechanical and electronic components under normal operating conditions.
