What the PPH-3 Is

The TrolMaster PPH-3 is a heavy-duty, commercially rated pH probe designed to integrate directly with TrolMaster's Aqua-X irrigation and fertigation control ecosystem. It measures pH continuously in liquid nutrient solutions — reservoir tanks, irrigation headers, or recirculating lines — and feeds live readings back to the Aqua-X controller for logging, alerting, and automated response.

The PPH-3 is an updated design over earlier TrolMaster pH probes. The key improvement is a reduced-diameter protective sleeve paired with a threaded body, which allows the probe to thread into a standard 3/4" PVC tee fitting — the same schedule-40 fittings already present in most commercial fertigation plumbing. The upgraded sensor element also delivers more stable, consistent output compared to prior-generation probes, which matters in high-frequency monitoring applications where drift or signal noise adds up over a grow cycle.

Who It's For

The PPH-3 is built for licensed cannabis and hemp operators running TrolMaster Aqua-X systems — specifically anyone using the AMP-2 nutrient sensor board module (paired with the Aqua-X NFS-1 controller) or the AMP-3 nutrient sensor board module (paired with Aqua-X Pro NFS-2 or Aqua-X Plus NFS-3 controllers). If your fertigation control system uses either of those sensor boards, the PPH-3 is the designated pH probe.

It suits both single-room cultivators running one Aqua-X controller and multi-zone commercial facilities where the Aqua-X Pro manages dozens of irrigation zones with up to 50 sensor inputs. Operators running coco coir, rockwool, or DWC production — any substrate or system where pH swing has direct canopy impact — benefit most from continuous inline pH monitoring versus manual spot-checks. It is also appropriate for aquaculture, laboratory, and aquarium applications where similar inline sensing requirements apply.

Key Features and Installation

The PPH-3's defining installation advantage is its dual-mode compatibility: it can be threaded into an inline PVC tee fitting within an irrigation or recirculation line, or dropped directly into a reservoir tank without any additional fittings. The reduced-diameter sleeve and threaded body make the inline installation straightforward — the probe seats into a standard 3/4" tee and is secured without custom adapters or fabrication.

The 3.6-meter (approximately 11.8-foot) cable provides significant placement flexibility, particularly when the nearest AMP-2 or AMP-3 sensor board is not immediately adjacent to the reservoir or fertigation manifold. The cable terminates in a BNC connector, which plugs directly into the AMP-2 or AMP-3 sensor board. No additional signal conditioning or converter is required. Working environment is rated 32–122°F with humidity below 90%, consistent with typical commercial indoor grow room and fertigation room conditions.

Probe care is critical: the glass sensor sphere must remain wet at all times. When the probe is removed from solution — for calibration, storage, or transport — it must be capped with the storage cap and kept in proper pH probe storage solution. A fully dried-out probe will not recover and will void warranty coverage. Operators should build routine calibration and probe storage procedures into their grow SOPs.

How It Fits Into a TrolMaster Build

The TrolMaster Aqua-X platform is a sensor-driven irrigation and fertigation control architecture. The base Aqua-X (NFS-1) supports pH, EC, and water temperature monitoring with historical data logging through the AMP-2 sensor board. The Aqua-X Pro (NFS-2) extends this to multi-zone solenoid and pump control across facilities with up to 50 sensor inputs, managed from a touchscreen and the TrolMaster mobile app. The Aqua-X Plus (NFS-3) adds capacity for up to 240 controlled devices and 25 sensor channels including pH, EC, VWC, grow medium temperature, and grow medium EC.

The PPH-3 is the pH input for any of these controllers via AMP-2 or AMP-3. When pH drifts outside programmed setpoints, the controller can push mobile alerts before the issue reaches the root zone.
