The TrolMaster DSE-1 Emergency Stop Station is a 120V controlled outlet that powers CO2 solenoid valves during normal operation and automatically cuts that power the moment the Carbon-X system detects a high-CO2 fault or any sensor communication loss. The DSE-1 sits in series between the Carbon-X controller and your CO2 solenoid valve. During normal operation it passes 120V power to the solenoid, keeping the valve open and CO2 flowing on schedule. The moment the Carbon-X alarm system (CDA-1) registers a high-CO2 fault from any installed sensor, it signals the DSE-1 to cut power — the solenoid closes, CO2 injection stops, and the grow space is protected.
There is a second, equally important fail-safe built in: if the DSE-1 loses communication with the Carbon-X controller for any reason — a wiring fault, controller restart, network hiccup — the power output is also disabled. The valve closes by default. That fail-closed logic is intentional; a CO2 supply that keeps running without a functioning safety system is the failure mode this station is designed to prevent.
The Carbon-X is TrolMaster's modular, multi-zone CO2 safety and monitoring platform. The CDA-1 main controller is the brain of the system, capable of monitoring up to 13 separate zones and controlling up to 40 total outputs — ventilation fans, dampers, audible/visual alarms, fire-panel dry contacts, and solenoid shutoff points. The DSE-1 is the shutoff output module: one DSE-1 per CO2 supply line or zone that requires an independently controllable 120V solenoid cutoff.
In a multi-room licensed facility, it is common to run one DSE-1 per room or per CO2 circuit so that a single high-CO2 event in one zone doesn't require shutting down the entire facility's supply. Each DSE-1 connects to the Carbon-X network via the included RJ12 cables and can be addressed individually, giving operators zone-level granularity over emergency response logic.

No. The DSE-1 requires a TrolMaster Carbon-X CDA-1 main controller to function. It communicates over the RJ12 network and takes its shutoff signal from the CDA-1. Without that communication link, the DSE-1's fail-closed design means its output stays disabled — which is by design, not a malfunction.
The Carbon-X system supports up to 40 total output devices. The DSE-1 counts as one output per unit, so the practical limit depends on how many other output modules (alarm stations, dry contact stations, relay stations, etc.) are also on the network. For most single-facility builds, running one DSE-1 per CO2 zone is well within system capacity.
Yes. If the DSE-1 loses communication with the Carbon-X controller for any reason, the output power is disabled and the connected solenoid valve closes. This fail-closed behavior ensures CO2 injection does not continue unmonitored.
The DSE-1 controls power to any 120V CO2 solenoid valve, so it is compatible with both CO2 tank/cylinder setups and CO2 generator setups, provided the solenoid valve draws within the 10A output rating. Verify your solenoid valve's electrical draw before installation.
