The TrolMaster Beta-1 is a digital day/night remote controller that teaches itself the IR signal from your existing mini split remote, then automatically switches between two independent temperature setpoints — one for lights-on, one for lights-off — using a wired IR emitter aimed at your air handler.
The TrolMaster Beta-1 adds automated day/night temperature scheduling to virtually any mini split air conditioner that uses an infrared remote — without cutting into wiring or voiding equipment warranties. Setup works by holding the mini split's original remote in front of the Beta-1 and running through the learning sequence. The Beta-1 captures the unique IR code set for that unit, stores it, and takes over signaling duties from that point forward.
Once programmed, you dial in two temperature setpoints directly on the Beta-1's LCD panel: one for the lights-on period, one for lights-off. A built-in photocell reads ambient light levels inside the room and triggers the appropriate setpoint automatically. The included IR emitter mounts within line-of-sight of the mini split's indoor air handler and rebroadcasts the correct IR command whenever a setpoint change is needed — or whenever the Beta-1's temperature sensor detects the room hasn't responded to the last signal.

Most cultivars benefit from a temperature drop during the dark cycle — a practice that supports terpene expression and helps prevent stretch — but stock mini split remotes offer no scheduling capability whatsoever. The photocell-based day/night detection means the Beta-1 is always synchronized to actual room light status — not a separate timer that can drift or fall out of phase. The temperature sensor continuously monitors room conditions and will re-send the IR command to the mini split if it doesn't detect the expected temperature response, adding a basic closed-loop check on top of the IR signal.
The Beta-1 supports cool-only, heat-only, or combined cooling and heating modes depending on the capabilities of the connected mini split. The LCD panel gives you a live readout of current room temperature alongside the active setpoint, so staff walking the room have an instant status check without touching the equipment. The 16-foot sensor cable on the remote temperature probe allows placement at canopy level rather than at the controller mounting position — a meaningful difference in rooms with vertical stratification.
The Beta-1 sits inside TrolMaster's broader Beta Series, a line of single-function digital controllers each targeting a specific piece of cultivation equipment: fan speed (Beta-2), temperature via corded devices (Beta-4), humidity (Beta-6), and CO2 (Beta-8). Multiple Beta units can be deployed in parallel to cover the full environment in rooms where the operator wants dedicated, independent controllers per function rather than an integrated platform.

The Beta-1 is not currently compatible with Daikin, Mr. Cool, Innovair, Cooper, or Hunter mini split units. It is compatible with the vast majority of other IR-remote-controlled mini split brands on the market.
