Digital Day/Night Humidity 110V Controller

Photocell-automated day/night humidity control for humidifiers and dehumidifiers — 20–90% rH.

TrolMaster BETA-6 is a 110V digital humidity controller that runs independent day and night rH setpoints, automatically switching modes via a built-in photocell — no timer wiring required. Compatible with both humidifiers and dehumidifiers, it ships with a precision remote sensor on a 16ft cable for accurate canopy-level readings.

What the BETA-6 Is

The TrolMaster BETA-6 is a dedicated single-zone humidity controller designed for 110V (120V AC) grow environments. It accepts one plugged-in device — either a humidifier or a dehumidifier — and drives that device on or off based on a user-defined rH setpoint. The controller operates across a 20–90% relative humidity range with a 5% deadband, keeping the room from short-cycling the connected device.

The unit includes a remote SA-H1 humidity/light sensor on a 16ft cable, allowing the probe to be positioned at canopy height rather than mounted at the controller body on the wall. The LED screen displays current humidity in real time and can recall max/min recorded values logged during the current run — useful for identifying swing patterns without external data logging.

Day/Night Mode and Photocell Logic

What separates the BETA-6 from a basic single-setpoint humidity controller is its independent day and night programming. Operators set two distinct rH targets — one for the photoperiod, one for lights-off — and the built-in photocell on the sensor assembly detects ambient light level to determine which setpoint is active. No relay wiring to a timer, no secondary controller needed.

This matters practically for cannabis cultivation: VPD targets shift between the lit and dark cycle as leaf and air temperature change. Running a single setpoint across both phases either leaves the room too dry during lights-on or promotes condensation risk during lights-off. The BETA-6 handles that split automatically, with setpoints saved on-device and no re-programming needed between cycles.

Installation and Compatibility

Setup is plug-and-play for any 120V humidifier or dehumidifier. Mount the controller body on the wall, connect the SA-H1 sensor, plug the BETA-6 into a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet, and plug the humidity device into the controller's output outlet. The mode selection (humidifying vs. dehumidifying) is set via the front panel — the unit will not run both simultaneously, so confirm which device is connected before programming.

The output circuit is fused at 6A/250V. The connected device should not exceed 7.5A draw; units with high inrush current (some larger dehumidifiers) may require sizing down to 6.5A to avoid tripping. For multi-zone facilities running larger equipment loads, the BETA-6 is best paired with an appropriately rated relay or load controller rather than wired directly to high-draw commercial dehumidification units.

Where It Fits in a Commercial Build

The BETA-6 is positioned as a standalone, single-zone humidity controller — part of TrolMaster's Legacy Beta Series. It does not integrate with TrolMaster's Hydro-X or Pro network ecosystem, so it operates independently without sensor bus wiring. That makes it a practical choice for auxiliary spaces: drying rooms, clone and propagation areas, secondary veg rooms, or any zone that needs humidity automation without being tied into a facility-wide control network.

For operations running TrolMaster's Hydro-X system as the primary controller, the BETA-6 can serve as a low-overhead backup or overflow-zone controller. For smaller licensed facilities or single-room setups that don't require full climate station integration, it delivers reliable photocell-driven day/night humidity control with a 3-year manufacturer warranty and minimal commissioning time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the BETA-6 control a dehumidifier and a humidifier at the same time?

No. The BETA-6 has a single output outlet and operates in one mode at a time — either humidifying or dehumidifying. You set the mode on the front panel based on whichever device is plugged in. For facilities that need to run both devices in the same zone from one controller, a dual-outlet humidity station would be required.

How does the controller know when it's 'day' vs. 'night' without being wired to a timer?

The SA-H1 sensor included with the unit has a built-in photocell. When the photocell detects light above its threshold, the controller applies the day setpoint. When light drops (lights-off), it switches to the night setpoint. No additional wiring or programming is required — the controller reads the ambient light in the room directly.

What is the 5% deadband and why does it matter?

The deadband is the buffer around the setpoint before the controller cycles the connected device on or off. With a 5% deadband, if your setpoint is 55% rH, the controller won't activate until humidity deviates 5 points from target. This prevents rapid on/off cycling (short-cycling) that wears out humidifier and dehumidifier motors prematurely.

Does the BETA-6 integrate with the TrolMaster Hydro-X system?

No. The BETA-6 is part of TrolMaster's Legacy Beta Series and operates as a standalone controller. It does not connect to the Hydro-X or Hydro-X Pro network and has no sensor bus port. It functions independently, which also makes it straightforward to deploy in spaces that don't require full system integration.

Where should the sensor be placed for accurate readings?

TrolMaster recommends mounting the controller on the wall and positioning the SA-H1 sensor probe at plant canopy height in a well-ventilated area of the grow space. The 16ft cable gives enough reach to place the sensor in the active grow zone rather than near the wall or ceiling where readings may not reflect conditions at plant level.
