What the MBS-K30 Is

The MBS-K30 is TrolMaster's current-generation CO2 sensor designed exclusively for integration with the Carbon-X multi-zone CO2 alarm and control system. It uses a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensing element housed in a self-aspirated enclosure — passive airflow draws ambient air across the sensor without requiring a pump, keeping the unit quiet and low-maintenance in a cultivation environment.

The sensor reads CO2 concentrations across the full 0–30,000 ppm range. That upper ceiling matters: standard horticultural CO2 sensors cap out around 2,000–5,000 ppm and are built for enrichment tuning, not safety shutdown. A Carbon-X installation needs a sensor that can accurately report at the high-level thresholds where OSHA and local fire/building codes require automatic shutoff and alarm activation — the MBS-K30 is purpose-built for that duty.

A built-in LCD display shows the current CO2 reading in ppm at all times, giving in-room personnel a direct readout without pulling up an app or controller screen. The cable set in the box — a 16 ft RJ12 cable and a T-shape splitter — is all the wiring hardware needed for a standard single-zone installation.

Where It Fits in a Commercial Build

The MBS-K30 is the sensing node for the Carbon-X CDA-1 controller. Each zone or room monitored by the Carbon-X system supports one or two MBS-K30 sensors. When a threshold is crossed, the Carbon-X system can execute a coordinated response: shut down the facility's main CO2 solenoid valve, activate ventilation fans and dampers, trigger audio-visual alarm stations (AS-1/AS-2), and send a dry-contact signal to the facility's fire alarm panel. The CDA-1 also pushes real-time alerts to the TrolMaster smartphone app, so facility managers receive notifications remotely — not just on-site personnel.

No. The MBS-K30 is designed specifically for the Carbon-X CO2 alarm and safety system (CDA-1 controller). It is not compatible with the Hydro-X or Hydro-X Pro platform.
