The TrolMaster AS-4 is an audible-visual alarm module within the Carbon-X CO2 safety and monitoring ecosystem. It combines a high-visibility blue LED strobe with an LCD screen that shows live CO2 ppm readings, giving anyone approaching a grow room immediate, at-a-glance awareness of atmospheric CO2 conditions. The unit is purpose-built to mount outside the monitored space — on corridor walls, above entry doors, or in hallways adjacent to cultivation rooms — so staff can assess conditions before entering. When CO2 levels exceed the threshold set in the Carbon-X main controller (CDA-1), the AS-4 simultaneously sounds its audible alarm and begins blinking the blue LED indicator, providing both audio and visible notification that conditions inside the room require attention.
The AS-4 is a fit for any licensed indoor cannabis or hemp operation that uses supplemental CO2 enrichment and needs to satisfy local or state safety regulations governing CO2 monitoring and alarming. Multi-room facilities — whether single-site vertical grows, multi-suite licensed producers, or multi-building campuses — benefit most, since the Carbon-X system supports up to 13 separately monitored zones and up to 40 total output device stations. Blue LED indicator: The blue LED display indicator activates — strobing — when the CO2 level exceeds the user-configured limit in the CDA-1 controller, providing a visually distinct warning that is identifiable from a distance and can be matched to site-specific color-coding requirements.
LCD digital ppm readout: The station continuously displays the current CO2 ppm level on its LCD screen, not just alarm state — so staff walking the floor can check levels without accessing a controller panel or app.
Dual-sensor linkage for redundancy: The AS-4 can be linked to either the AL-1 or AL-2 CO2 sensor channel on the Carbon-X controller, or linked to both sensor channels simultaneously for full redundancy — ensuring the alarm fires on a fault in either sensor without requiring two separate alarm stations.
RJ12 plug-and-play connection: Like all Carbon-X modules, the AS-4 connects via standard RJ12 cable. The included 16 ft RJ12 cable provides immediate installation reach. The Carbon-X system is a modular CO2 safety architecture centered on the CDA-1 main controller. Each monitored zone requires at minimum one CO2 sensor (MBS-K30) and one audio-visual alarm station. The AS-4 fills the alarm-station role for zones where blue is the required or preferred indicator color. All alarm stations, including the AS-4, must be connected through a powered SPH-1 Splitter Hub — the hub delivers power over the shared RJ12 communications cable, keeping installation clean with no per-device power wiring. The system supports both high-level (up to 30,000 ppm) and low-level (5,000 ppm) alert thresholds, both user-adjustable to match local regulations. When the Carbon-X detects an exceedance, it can simultaneously trigger alarm stations like the AS-4, activate ventilation via the DSC-1, shut the main CO2 solenoid via the DSE-1, and send a dry contact signal to a facility fire alarm panel via the DSD-1 — all from a single event trigger. Remote monitoring and push notifications are also available through the TrolMaster mobile app with internet connectivity enabled on the CDA-1.

The AS-4 is a Carbon-X system module — it requires the TrolMaster CDA-1 Carbon-X main controller. The alarm threshold is configured in the CDA-1, which then triggers the AS-4 when CO2 levels exceed the set limit. It is not designed to operate independently without the Carbon-X system.
The AS-4 draws power through the RJ12 communications cable. The SPH-1 is a powered hub that injects power into the RJ12 line, allowing the alarm station to operate without a dedicated power supply wired to each unit. This keeps installation clean and scalable across multi-room builds. The SPH-1 is sold separately.
The AS-4 can be linked to both the AL-1 and AL-2 sensor channels on the Carbon-X simultaneously, providing redundancy — if either sensor detects an exceedance, the AS-4 will alarm. However, for separate physical zones each requiring their own exterior-mounted alarm, a separate AS-4 (or other alarm station) per zone is required. The Carbon-X supports up to 13 monitoring zones and up to 40 total device stations.
The hardware functionality is identical — audible alarm, LED strobe, LCD ppm display, RJ12 connection. The only difference is the LED indicator color: the AS-3 has an orange indicator and the AS-4 has a blue indicator. Color selection is typically driven by jurisdiction-specific fire safety or CO2 alarm code requirements.
The LCD display shows the live digital CO2 ppm reading continuously — not just during an alarm. This allows facility staff to monitor ambient CO2 levels from outside a room at any time without needing to check the CDA-1 controller panel or the TrolMaster app.
