What the AS-3 Is

The TrolMaster AS-3 is an audible-visual alarm module built specifically for facilities that use supplemental CO2. It mounts outside the grow room or cultivation zone — on a corridor wall, hallway, or entry point — where staff can read CO2 ppm levels on the LCD display without entering the space. When CO2 concentrations climb above the threshold programmed into the Carbon-X main controller (CDA-1), the AS-3 triggers simultaneously: a 100 dB audible siren and a blinking amber LED indicator. At that sound pressure level, the alarm cuts through HVAC noise and busy facility floors.

The amber indicator color is the distinguishing spec here. Where It Fits in the Carbon-X System

The AS-3 is a peripheral output device within TrolMaster's Carbon-X CO2 safety platform. The Carbon-X system (built around the CDA-1 main controller) monitors CO2 ppm across up to 13 separate zones, supports both high-level alerts (up to 30,000 ppm) and low-level alerts (down to 5,000 ppm), and can trigger a range of automated responses — CO2 solenoid shutoff, ventilation fan actuation, damper control, and fire alarm panel interface — in addition to audio-visual alarms like the AS-3.

The AS-3 connects to the CDA-1 via standard RJ12 cable (a 16 ft RJ12 cable is included in the box) and requires the SPH-1 powered splitter hub for supplemental power — the SPH-1 is a separate line item and must be included in any complete station build. The AS-3 can be linked to either the AL-1 or AL-2 sensor channel, or both simultaneously, giving full sensor redundancy at that alarm point. Up to 40 device stations can run on a single Carbon-X system, so multi-room operators can scale alarm coverage across an entire facility from one controller.

Who Should Specify the AS-3

Any licensed cannabis or hemp cultivation facility running supplemental CO2 enrichment needs compliant audio-visual alarms at room egress points — this is not optional in most state-level cannabis regulations and aligns with OSHA general industry standards for CO2 hazard notification. The AS-3 is the right fit when: (1) you are building on an existing Carbon-X CO2 safety install and need additional alarm stations for new rooms or zones; (2) your AHJ or state cannabis regulator specifies amber as the required visual alarm color for high-CO2 zones; or (3) you want an alarm module that also shows live ppm readout at the door, not just a light and siren.

The LCD ppm display is particularly useful for cultivation staff doing room entry checks — rather than relying solely on a sensor app or controller screen located elsewhere in the facility, staff can read the actual CO2 concentration directly at the room door before deciding whether entry is safe. This is a meaningful workflow advantage in facilities with multiple rooms running different CO2 setpoints.

Installation and Integration Notes

Installation is plug-and-go via RJ12 — no low-voltage wiring expertise required. Mount the AS-3 outside the room to be monitored at a height readable by staff. Run the included 16 ft RJ12 cable to the SPH-1 splitter hub; the SPH-1 then connects upstream to the CDA-1 controller. All alarm threshold settings are managed at the CDA-1 level — the AS-3 itself has no independent threshold programming. The CDA-1 supports remote monitoring and push-alert notifications via the TrolMaster smartphone app over Wi-Fi or LAN (Cat 5/6 to router), so operators can receive CO2 alerts remotely even when off-site.

Operating environment spec: 32–122°F temperature range, up to 90% relative humidity — suitable for the ambient conditions typical outside a sealed grow room.
