The TrolMaster Carbon-X is a modular CO2 monitoring and safety system designed for commercial indoor grow facilities that use supplemental CO2 enrichment. The CDA-1 is the central controller — the brain of the system — that ties together sensors, alarm stations, device control modules, and cloud connectivity into one managed platform.
When CO2 concentrations rise above safe thresholds, the system executes a layered response: automatic shutoff of the main CO2 solenoid, activation of ventilation fans and dampers, triggering of audio-visual alarms in affected zones, and — if your facility requires it — a dry-contact signal to the building's fire and life safety panel. All of these responses can be configured per zone, per output, to match your facility layout and your local AHJ requirements.
Any licensed cannabis or hemp cultivation operation running CO2 enrichment needs a documented, code-compliant safety system. State cannabis regulations in the majority of legal markets require CO2 monitoring and alarm infrastructure as a condition of licensure — and many local fire codes independently mandate it regardless of the crop. High and low CO2 alert thresholds are independently user-adjustable — high level up to 30,000 ppm, low level starting at 5,000 ppm — so the system can be tuned to match both local regulatory limits and your internal SOPs for worker safety.
Sensors, alarm stations, and device control modules all connect to the CDA-1 via standard RJ12 cable (included). The plug-and-play wiring architecture keeps installation straightforward. The controller mounts via a DIN-type bracket for wall or surface installation. Cloud connectivity enables the free TrolMaster app to deliver real-time CO2 readings, push notifications, and alert emails to designated contacts — so your safety manager doesn't need to be on-site to know when a zone has an exceedance event.
The dry-contact output station (DSD-1, sold separately) supports both normally-open and normally-closed wiring configurations, allowing direct integration with third-party fire alarm panels — a common requirement for facilities in jurisdictions with NFPA 1 or IFC Chapter 38 CO2 provisions.
The Carbon-X integrates alongside — not in competition with — TrolMaster's Hydro-X environmental control platform. Where the Hydro-X manages climate, lighting schedules, and fertigation, the Carbon-X runs as a parallel, dedicated safety layer. Keeping CO2 safety on a separate system is a defensible architecture for inspections and compliance audits, since the safety shutoff logic is not entangled with grow automation logic.

The CDA-1 kit includes the central controller, two 16-foot RJ12 cables, and a 12V power adapter. CO2 sensors, alarm stations (AS-series), and device control modules (DSC-1, DSE-1, DSV-2, DSD-1) are sold separately and connect to the CDA-1 via RJ12 cable. Yes. Automatic CO2 shutoff is achieved by wiring your facility's main CO2 solenoid valve in series with one of the system's control modules (DSE-1 emergency stop station or DSV-2 low-volt station). When a high-level CO2 threshold is breached, the controller triggers the shutoff without requiring manual intervention.

The DSD-1 dry-contact output station (sold separately) provides both normally-open and normally-closed connections and is designed to interface directly with third-party fire and life safety alarm panels — supporting facilities that must comply with NFPA, IFC, or state-specific fire code CO2 provisions.
The TrolMaster app is free to download. Once the CDA-1 is connected to your facility's internet (most standard land-based and cellular connections are supported; HughesNet/Viasat satellite is not compatible), you can monitor real-time CO2 readings, adjust settings, and receive push alerts and alert emails when CO2 levels exceed your set thresholds — from anywhere.
A single CDA-1 can monitor up to 13 separate zones or rooms and control up to 40 total outputs. For most multi-room commercial cultivation facilities, one CDA-1 provides full-facility coverage. Very large campuses with more than 13 distinct CO2 zones would require an additional controller.
