What Athena IPM Is

Athena IPM is a concentrated insecticide and fungicide built for commercial indoor cultivation. The formula is derived entirely from minimum-risk inputs — geranium oil, citric acid, potassium sorbate, and horticultural plant oils — with no synthetic active ingredients. It is classified as EPA 25(b) exempt under FIFRA, meaning it does not require federal EPA registration because every active ingredient is on the minimum-risk list. For licensed cannabis operators, that classification is material: the product does not introduce regulated pesticide residues that trigger failed compliance testing for pesticides or microbials.

The mechanism is physical rather than chemical. On contact, natural plant oils smother eggs, juveniles, and adults by blocking their breathing holes, while citric acid dissolves and desiccates the pest's protective outer membrane. Because the kill action is mechanical, pests cannot develop resistance to it over time — a significant operational advantage when running the same genetics and the same environment run after run.

Target Pests and Pathogens

Athena IPM targets the pest and pathogen pressure most common in controlled-environment cannabis and hemp production: spider mites (adults, nymphs, and eggs), aphids, whitefly, fungus gnats, and powdery mildew. It penetrates plant crevices and leaf surfaces — top and underside — where pest populations establish before visible symptoms appear. For powdery mildew specifically, the formula functions as a control, killer, and curative treatment depending on application rate and frequency.

The product addresses all life stages. Foliar applications at treatment strength will treat adults, nymphs, larvae, and eggs on contact. A separate root drench protocol targets soil-dwelling stages of fungus gnats and similar pests at the root zone, extending coverage below the canopy line.

Application Protocols

Athena IPM runs in two modes: preventative and treatment. For prevention during veg and early flower, mix 50–60 mL per gallon of water and apply 2–3 times per week with lights off or in early morning, covering tops and undersides of all leaf surfaces. For active infestations or established mildew pressure, increase to 90–120 mL per gallon; a minimum of three applications spaced three days apart is required to break most pest cycles. Start at the lower end of the treatment range and increase if pressure persists.

Root drench applications run at 5–10 mL per gallon — saturate media to slight runoff. The product is compatible with all fertilizers and additives, so it integrates cleanly into existing fertigation and foliar stacks. Store between 45°F and 85°F, out of direct sunlight; shelf life is two years from manufacture date when stored correctly. Always spray with lights off to avoid phytotoxicity risk from oil-based formulas under high-intensity lighting.
