HOCl-based system cleaner and root zone optimizer — safe at every growth stage, zero NPK impact.
Athena Blended Cleanse is a stabilized hypochlorous acid (HOCl) solution formulated to descale irrigation lines, eliminate biofilm, and maintain root zone health across every phase of a crop cycle. With a neutral pH and near-zero TDS contribution, it runs alongside your nutrient program without disturbing EC or mineral balance.
Athena Blended Cleanse is a stabilized solution of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) derived from sodium chloride via a proprietary electrochemical process. HOCl is a mild oxidizing acid with powerful antimicrobial and descaling properties — and unlike chlorine-based sanitation products, it is non-toxic and plant-safe at all growth stages. The formulation is shelf-stable for up to two years when stored correctly.
Its NPK is 0-0-0. It adds no measurable nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium to the nutrient solution, and its very low TDS contribution means it will not shift your mineral balance or throw off EC targets. pH impact is neutral, so it does not require compensatory pH adjustment when dosed at standard maintenance rates. These properties make it the rare system-maintenance input that can be run continuously without creating a secondary management problem.
Any commercial indoor or greenhouse operation running pressurized fertigation — drip, RDWC, NFT, flood-and-drain, or automated dosing — accumulates mineral scale, biofilm, and organic residue in lines, emitters, and reservoirs over time. That buildup restricts flow, clogs dripper heads, creates anaerobic pockets that promote pathogenic microbial growth, and causes nutrient lockout by reducing oxygen availability in the root zone. Athena Blended Cleanse addresses all of those failure points in a single input.
It is also recommended for cloning machines and propagation setups. Dipping fresh cuttings in a Cleanse solution (10 mL per gallon) has been reported to improve cell health and early root development. For established plants, it is appropriate at any vegetative or flowering stage — including as part of the final flush protocol to clear residual mineral accumulation from growing media before harvest.
Cleanse increases the Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) of irrigation water. Higher ORP means the water has greater capacity to oxidize and break down organic matter, mineral complexes with low solubility, and biological contaminants — without requiring harsh chemical sanitation products. This is particularly important in recirculating and RDWC systems, where biofilm and anaerobic microbial growth can establish quickly in reservoirs and return lines.
On the irrigation hardware side, regular Cleanse maintenance breaks down calcium and magnesium scale inside drip lines, emitters, and manifolds — the same mineral deposits that cause partial clogging and uneven distribution across a large canopy. Keeping emitters clear at commercial scale is a meaningful yield protection measure: a partially blocked dripper at one end of a bench creates uneven saturation and dry pockets that show up as apparent deficiencies before a grower identifies the mechanical cause.
Athena Blended Cleanse is part of the Athena Blended Line — a two-part liquid nutrient program built around Grow A&B (vegetative) and Bloom A&B (flowering), supplemented by CaMg, PK, and Balance (pH stabilizer). The Blended Line is designed for operators who want a fully liquid program with no dry salts to weigh or dissolve, compatible with all automated dosing systems and fine dripper heads.
Cleanse fits the program as a standing system-maintenance input rather than a one-time flush. Running it at 2–5 mL per gallon on a routine basis keeps lines, reservoirs, and root zones in a condition where the base nutrients can deliver efficiently. For end-of-cycle flush, the 5–10 mL per gallon rate targets residual mineral accumulation in growing media directly. It is compatible with rockwool, coco coir, peat-based soilless, soil, and recirculating hydroponic systems. Available through HSC nationally — request a quote for case and drum pricing.

Both. At 2–5 mL per gallon it is designed for continuous in-line maintenance use at any growth stage. The 5–10 mL per gallon rate is used for the end-of-cycle media flush or to address a severe mineral buildup or biofilm situation mid-run. Its 0-0-0 NPK and neutral pH mean it does not interfere with the nutrient program when dosed at maintenance rates.
Athena Cleanse is formulated for mineral/synthetic fertigation programs — the Athena Blended and Pro Lines are salt-based nutrient systems, not biological programs. If you are running a living soil or heavy probiotic inoculant program, HOCl's oxidative properties may disrupt those organisms. Athena does not position Cleanse for use in biological programs; it is intended for clean-salt, mineral-based production.
Athena Blended Cleanse is available in 1-gallon, 5-gallon, and 55-gallon drum formats. The 1-gallon SKU (LQ-CL-1G) is listed here. Contact HSC for pricing on 5-gallon and 55-gallon quantities — larger format pricing is handled by quote.
Yes — RDWC and recirculating systems are explicitly called out as high-priority use cases. Recirculating water accumulates mineral complexes with low solubility ratings that are no longer plant-available. Cleanse's oxidative action helps break those complexes down and reduces the anaerobic microbial growth and biofilm that develop in reservoirs and return lines when oxygen levels drop.
Functionally the same active ingredient and purpose, sold under the Blended Line branding. The Blended Line is Athena's all-liquid program (no dry salts); the Pro Line uses dry water-soluble concentrates for base nutrients. Cleanse is the system-maintenance and root zone optimizer component in both programs and is used the same way regardless of which base nutrient line the facility runs.
