What the Aqua-X Pro (NFS-2) Is

The NFS-2 is TrolMaster's flagship irrigation controller and the central brain of the Aqua-X Pro system. It operates as a fully modular platform: two independent control lines — one pump line, one valve line — each support up to 50 control modules. When running OA6-series modules, a single NFS-2 can address up to 300 pumps and 300 solenoid valves simultaneously, making it one of the highest-capacity commercial irrigation controllers available.

Out of the box, the NFS-2 ships with the AMP-3 sensor board included. The AMP-3 bridges your pH probes and EC/temperature sensors directly to the controller, giving you real-time reservoir readings on both the AMP-3's local LCD and the main 10" touch-screen. Up to 50 AMP-3 boards can connect to one NFS-2, enabling simultaneous monitoring across multiple reservoirs, nutrient tanks, or grow zones.

Connectivity runs over standard CAT5/6 Ethernet to your facility network, and the free TrolMaster TM+ app (iOS and Android) gives remote access to all settings, live readings, scheduling, and push-alert notifications. A web portal is also available at pro.trolmaster.com for browser-based control.

Who It's Built For

The NFS-2 is designed for licensed cannabis and hemp cultivators running operations that have outgrown basic timer-based irrigation. If your facility runs multiple rooms, multiple strains on different feed programs, or a mix of coco, rockwool, and living soil zones, the NFS-2's multi-zone scheduling and pump-link functions let you run each area independently from one controller.

It's equally at home in single-facility operations that need airtight nutrient-delivery documentation — the system logs historical pH, EC, and temperature data for every feed event, giving you the audit trail that state compliance and quality programs increasingly require. Operators running large-scale fertigation with Dosatron systems or nutrient-injection dosing can integrate the NFS-2 directly into their irrigation infrastructure.

For multi-site operators or management-company accounts, the TM+ app consolidates all NFS-2 controllers across sites into one dashboard, with individual alert thresholds per zone so your cultivation director gets notified the moment a pH or EC reading drifts outside tolerance — without being physically on site.

Key Features and Control Modes

The NFS-2 supports several distinct irrigation trigger modes: simple time-based schedules, feed-by-volume (using the optional DFM-1 digital flow meter), and feed-on-demand (using WCS-1 or WCS-2 substrate moisture sensors). Feed-on-demand is particularly relevant for coco and rockwool growers running precision crop-steering programs — irrigation fires only when the medium reaches a user-defined water content threshold, not on a fixed clock.

The Master Pump Link function is a standout for large or complex builds. It allows multiple booster pumps to be paired with multiple groups of solenoid valves under a single timer setting, so one schedule entry activates the right pump-valve combination for each zone without redundant programming. Calendar control extends this further, letting you preset different feed schedules across multiple days — useful for managing different phases (propagation, veg, flower) running simultaneously across rooms.

The AMP-3 sensor board connects pH probes via BNC terminal and EC/temperature sensors via Mini DIN, and reports to the NFS-2 over RJ12. Each AMP-3 has an addressing key so the controller can distinguish between up to 50 individual boards on the same system bus. The AMP-3's local LCD lets technicians verify readings at the reservoir without walking back to the main controller panel.

How It Fits a Commercial Build

In a mid-scale facility — say, 8 to 16 flower rooms with individual reservoirs per zone — a single NFS-2 can handle the entire site's irrigation and monitoring infrastructure. The modular architecture means you start with the rooms you're running today and add OA6 control modules as you expand, without replacing the central controller.

Solenoid compatibility covers 24VAC valves; pump control covers 120VAC submersible and irrigation pumps via the appropriate OA6 modules. Max cable run to connected devices is 1,000 feet (300 meters), which is sufficient for most single-facility footprints without signal repeaters.

The NFS-2 pairs directly with TrolMaster's broader Hydro-X environment-control ecosystem for operators who also want to tie irrigation events to room VPD, CO2, or lighting schedules. Ask about available expansion modules — WCS-1/WCS-2 moisture sensors, DFM-1 flow meters, and DSP-1 device stations — when configuring your system through HSC.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rooms or zones can one NFS-2 realistically control?

With OA6-series control modules, a single NFS-2 supports up to 300 solenoid valves and 300 pumps. Each valve or pump can run its own independent irrigation schedule with an unlimited number of feed events per 24-hour day, so the NFS-2 can technically cover an entire multi-room facility from one controller — provided your cable runs stay within the 1,000-foot device distance limit.

What's included with the NFS-2, and what do I need to add?

The NFS-2 ships with the AMP-3 sensor board and two 12-foot RJ12 cables included. To control solenoid valves, you'll add OA6-24 control boards (24VAC). For 120VAC pump control, add OA6-110 boards. For flow-based or volume-triggered irrigation, add a DFM-1 digital flow meter. For substrate moisture-triggered (crop-steering) irrigation, add WCS-1 or WCS-2 water content sensors. Contact HSC to configure the right module set for your facility.

Can the NFS-2 trigger irrigation based on substrate moisture rather than a timer?

Yes. When paired with WCS-1 or WCS-2 water content sensors, the NFS-2 can execute feed-on-demand irrigation — meaning a zone fires when the substrate water content drops below a user-set threshold, not on a fixed clock. This is the control mode most commonly used for precision crop-steering in coco and rockwool.

How does the AMP-3 sensor board work in a multi-reservoir setup?

Each AMP-3 board has an addressing key that gives it a unique ID on the system bus. Up to 50 AMP-3 boards can connect to one NFS-2. Each board reads pH, EC, and water temperature at its local reservoir and displays readings on its onboard LCD; all readings are also aggregated on the main NFS-2 touch screen and in the TM+ app. This makes it straightforward to monitor every nutrient tank in a multi-zone facility from a single interface.

Does the NFS-2 integrate with TrolMaster's room environment controllers?

Yes. TrolMaster designed the Aqua-X Pro to work alongside its Hydro-X and other environment control platforms. This allows operators to coordinate irrigation events with room-level climate parameters — useful for facilities that want to tie feed cycles to VPD targets or lighting schedules. Ask HSC about configuring a combined environment and irrigation control stack for your facility.
