What the Aqua-X Plus Is

The TrolMaster Aqua-X Plus (NFS-3) is the top tier of TrolMaster's Aqua-X irrigation control line — an upgrade from the Aqua-X Pro (NFS-2), built for operators who need greater device capacity, expanded sensor monitoring, and native crop steering automation in a single controller. It manages pumps and solenoid valves across multiple zones and coordinates irrigation events based on timers, volumetric water content thresholds, flow meter readings, or calendar-based schedules.

The NFS-3 ships with the AMP-3 Sensor Board included. The AMP-3 acts as the interface between the NFS-3 and your pH, EC, and water temperature probes — it has its own onboard LCD so staff can read solution parameters directly at the reservoir, while all data mirrors simultaneously to the main controller display and the TM+ Pro app.

Key Features and Capabilities

Device and sensor capacity: the NFS-3 controls up to 240 total devices (pumps and solenoid valves) and concurrently monitors up to 25 individual sensors covering pH, EC, water temperature, substrate volumetric water content (WC%), grow medium temperature, and grow medium EC. Multiple AMP-3 boards can be added to the network for multi-reservoir or multi-zone solution monitoring.

Crop steering integration: when paired with optional WCS-1 or WCS-2 substrate sensors, the NFS-3 can actively trigger irrigation events based on real-time VWC dry-back thresholds — not fixed clocks. This enables the precision dry-back management required for generative steering in coco and rockwool without manual intervention.

Multiple Pump Link: the NFS-3 lets operators assign different pumps to different valves and link them to specific irrigation tasks, providing flexibility for split-nutrient programs, separate flush lines, or zoned fertigation runs.

Connectivity: wired network connection via standard CAT5 cable provides direct internet access. The free TM+ Pro app supports full remote control and monitoring from any iOS or Android device. Historical data is logged and viewable both on the unit's 7" touchscreen and through the app, with configurable alarm setpoints that push notifications when any parameter goes out of range.

Installation and Expansion

The Aqua-X Plus uses standard RJ12 cables and RJ12 Y-splitters for all sensor and module connections — plug-and-play from the start, with modules daisy-chained together to allow phased expansion without rewiring. For larger installs, TrolMaster's SPH-1 8-port hub replaces Y-splitters and simplifies high-density wiring runs.

Maximum cable run to a connected device or sensor is 1,000 ft / 300 meters, making the NFS-3 practical in large greenhouses and multi-room warehouses without repeaters. Operating environment ratings are 31–104°F and ≤90% relative humidity. The unit carries ETL and FCC certifications.
