The TrolMaster AS-5 is an audio/visual alarm module purpose-built for commercial cultivation environments where supplemental CO2 is in use. When a connected controller detects that a monitored parameter — most commonly CO2 concentration — has crossed a user-defined threshold, the AS-5 activates both an audible siren and a visible strobe or light indicator simultaneously. The unit is compact and bracket-mountable, designed to be placed wherever personnel need to see or hear an alert, whether that is inside the canopy zone or mounted on an exterior corridor wall outside a sealed room.

The AS-5 is the alarm module component within TrolMaster's broader Carbon-X and Hydro-X ecosystem. It does not operate as a standalone detector — it receives a trigger signal from a host controller (CDA-1, HCS-2, HCS-3, or NFS-2) and converts that signal into an immediate on-site alarm. This distinction matters in commercial builds: sensing, logic, and alarming are separated into discrete, reliable modules rather than combined in a single consumer-grade unit that can become a single point of failure.

Who This Is For

Any licensed cannabis or hemp cultivation operator running supplemental CO2 enrichment in sealed or semi-sealed rooms should have a properly configured local alarm at each monitored zone. State and local building codes — as well as OSHA guidelines — increasingly require audible-visual CO2 alarms in facilities where CO2 concentrations can reach hazardous levels. The AS-5 paired with a CDA-1 Carbon-X controller is TrolMaster's answer to that compliance requirement.

The AS-5 is equally at home in single-room boutique builds and large-scale multi-zone commercial facilities. When paired with the CDA-1 Carbon-X system, the alarm can be linked to either the AL-1 (low-level) or AL-2 (high-level) CO2 sensor channel, or to both channels simultaneously for full redundancy — meaning a single sensor fault won't leave a zone unprotected. Operators running Hydro-X Pro (HCS-2), Hydro-X Plus (HCS-3), or Aqua-X Pro (NFS-2) controllers can connect the AS-5 directly to those systems as a local alarm output without requiring the Carbon-X CDA-1 controller.

Key Features and Integration Points

The AS-5 connects to TrolMaster's standard RJ12 wiring architecture, the same daisy-chain cabling used throughout the Hydro-X and Carbon-X product lines. Power for the AS-5 can be supplied through the DSD-1 Dry Contact Station when integrated into a Carbon-X setup. The DSD-1 also provides N/O and N/C dry contact outputs, which allows the alarm circuit to interface with a facility's existing fire alarm panel — a requirement in many jurisdictions for commercial CO2 users.

On the Carbon-X side, user-adjustable alarm thresholds on the CDA-1 host controller cover a low-level range of 3,000–15,000 PPM and a high-level range of 15,000–30,000 PPM, giving operators the ability to calibrate alarm triggers to their specific local regulatory requirements. The Carbon-X system as a whole supports up to 40 device station outputs total and can be expanded to monitor up to 13 separate zones — the AS-5 can be deployed at each zone as needed. Push notifications through the TrolMaster app provide an additional remote alert layer on top of the local AS-5 siren and strobe.

How the AS-5 Fits a Commercial Build

In a properly configured commercial CO2 setup, the AS-5 is the final, facility-floor layer of the alarm chain. Sensors detect, the controller (CDA-1 or HCS-2/3) interprets and logs, and the AS-5 creates an immediate, unmissable on-site alert that does not require anyone to be looking at a phone or a dashboard. For facilities with separate veg and flower rooms, one AS-5 per room — each linked back to its zone's sensor channel — gives zone-specific alarming without cross-zone false triggers.

The module's rated operating temperature of 32–122°F and humidity tolerance of ≤90% RH make it suitable for the warm, high-humidity environments typical of active flower rooms. It can be mounted on the exterior of a room so employees in a hallway get visual and audible confirmation of an alarm event before entering, which is a practical safety workflow for any facility following documented standard operating procedures.
